Before the whole world knew his name, @asaprocky did his first radio interview on @ballerseve @eastvillageradio!!! 🔊🔊🔊 @jdirrt, my guest on this week’s pod episode, shares how J. Scott got involved with Ballers Eve & brought in A$AP! In 2011, Rocky’s mixtape “Live. Love. ASAP” was about to drop and Ballers Eve ended up giving A$AP Rocky his first radio interview, right as everything was taking off! Iconic. 💜RIP @asapyams & @jscottandshit, legends. On this week’s episode of Roxy’s Tales, I go through the history of @eastvillageradio with @jdirrt. In the early 2000s, Jordan was working at @lilfrankies when @frankprisinzano & @theazorian had the idea to start a pirate radio station out of the office. After the FCC shut them down, they pivoted to internet radio and East Village Radio was born! Tune in to this week’s episode to hear the full story behind EVR & Ballers Eve from Jordan himself! On this week’s episode of Roxy’s Tales, Jordan Merz AKA @jdirrt breaks down the history of @ballerseve on @eastvillageradio, bringing Southern Hip Hop to New York, and the cultural shift that changed music forever. In the early 2000s, New York hip hop was king, and it wasn’t always welcoming to outsiders. But Jordan and the Ballers Eve crew refused to let that stop them. Coming to NYC from Atlanta, Jordan saw a void in the city’s music & culture. The South had something to say, and he was determined to make New York hear it. Jordan opens up about the real backlash he and his crew faced for championing Southern sounds during a time when the climate wasn’t always receptive. We also talk about the legendary names who came through the show, from @asaprocky and @trinidadjamesgg to @yelawolf and @slimthug. Jordan breaks down the exact moment the cultural shift started tipping, and the roles that he and so many others played in it. If you’re a fan of New York music history, Southern hip hop, or the underground radio scene that shaped a generation, this is an episode you don’t want to miss. 📸 by: @patrickwbuckley @mattmcginley Honorable mentions on this week’s episode… @bigboi @outkast @jscottandshit @juicyj @thefader @missyeahoe @lilfrankies @djspeakerfoxxx @three6mafia @blacknblue_nyc @frozenfiles @enidsbar @kds_of_ballerseve @erikhfoss @sethzaplin @rapidric @atrak @thequeenmajesty @frankprisinzano @pastortroydsgb @djpaulkom @missyeahoe @asapyams @juicyj @kennethcappello @mattsonzala @mjqofficial @1troublemmb @supremenewyork @teamworksnewyorkcity @smurffedout @kingofthewaffy Roxy’s Tales Podcast Available on Spotify, Apple & YouTube 🔗 ⬆️ #RoxysTales #JordanMerz #BallersEve #EastVillageRadio #MusicHistory

NYC’s underground gave me the blueprint 🗽 On this week’s episode of Roxy’s Tales, I sat down with Anouck to talk about the genres, the faces, and places we gathered: The Hole, Lit, Sway, and Don Hills gave us limitless inclusivity and ideas in the Y2K era. The only rule was…anything is possible. So why not bring Baltimore Club, Houston Screw & New Orleans Bounce into the city and watch them collide with cool? The cross-pollination changed everything for me and many! Were you one of the many? Tune in to the full episode with Anouck out now!!
