Mother’s Day Eve
Im not sure why our children choose us to come through , but I do know my sun’s manifestation on the planet made me stronger, sharper, joyful .. I grew up ...My sun is the blessing that made it easier to get up when I was down , the smile , hug , presence that made me feel like I must be very special to get to mother him, I rediscovered wonder - suddenly , I noticed, ants , ladybugs and caterpillars, I watched clouds turn into animals and I was invested in Yu-gi oh and Howl’s Moving Castle . I read Toad and Frog with him and Harry Potter . I ridiculously spent $40 on what was it really a rare Pokemon card. Yellow became my favorite emo-song and well, Im still working on Kid Cudi. Mothering is a process where we are raising each other , learning, making mistakes, doing amazing things and laughing louder than you thought you could .. This is my baby, my heart , my joy and I thank him for choosing me and God for this blessing everyday 🌻

60 years in, UPROSE’s Executive Director Elizabeth Yeampierre @eyeampierre continues to lead at the intersection of climate and racial justice.
Honored to see her recognized among Fordham’s trailblazers for work rooted in a simple truth: if you can’t breathe, you can’t fight. Gratitude to @fordhamuniversity for this feature. 🌍

In order to find this photo, I had to scroll through many painful memories of how I’ve tried to make myself pretty to distract people from seeing the history of trauma that so evidently lives on my thighs , arms, heart, my cells and body. Dolores’s history of standing up with her fist and fighting for our people while privately holding years of trauma landed so hard. Dolores Huertas is our hero. I remember experiencing imposter syndrome when I sat at a national decision-making table in DC across from her and then heard her say, “ I agree with every single thing Elizabeth said.” I was silent & overwhelmed that an iconic elder who I admired so deeply even saw me. It felt like such a big responsibility to live up to her affirmation. We didn’t know each other. When we met again , I saw a matriarch, a political powerhouse - I saw an auntie, our auntie. Many of us cried when we read her story but it was not a surprise which is why so many of us pray and work to build something different - sending love and healing to all the people who had to separate themselves from their bodies, so that they didn’t feel the pain- and love and respect to this courageous beloved matriarch who at 97 is still using her body to fight for us to be better #onelove
