LAST WEEKEND FOR @banh.vi
.
As some of you may know, this weekend is my last weekend trading with Banh Vi from New Century Hall.
.
It’s been a journey and a half since opening our concept at Alty Market in 2019. We came here to New Century as one of the original traders, head hunted by the directors. A very proud moment indeed.
.
My next permanent home isn’t known just yet, my plan is to reset and recharge.
.
To every customer, to every person I’ve worked with, to all our incredible staff over the years - I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
.
Let’s have a sell out weekend so I’m not eating Banh Mi noodles and rice for the next month!
.
Here’s to the next chapter 🍻🥂🤙

Who went to see @oasis at Heaton Park? 🙋‍♂️ We did!

Managed to bag tickets last year for their first show in Manchester in 16 years - and what a show! 🔥

The city leaned into the reunion strong, with murals on the sides of buildings, bars blasting music, filling the streets with Britpop classics. 🎵

But before we headed out to Prestwich - food. We hit up @newcenturykitchenmcr, just a short walk from the long tram queue at Victoria, for some pretty special scran.

The kitchen has five vendors offering pizza, burgers, Japanese and South Asian street food - one of our faves. 💚

@banh.vi have the best banh mi we’ve tasted in a looooong time. Bread was fresh, tofu was tangy and the pickles and salad gave it a nice kick. Alongside we had crispy mushroom wings and loaded tater tots. More than we needed, as per…

Tummies full, we eventually got to Heaton Park after a few beer stops on the way for one of the best gigs we’ve ever been to.

Atmosphere was electric, weather was amazing and vibes were off the scale for this historic show.

Back to back bangers (though no She’s Electric or Lyla, but you can’t have everything) for two solid hours. Musically, they were on fine form, production was slick and the Gallagher brothers’ vocals almost drowned out by 80,000 fans of all ages bellowing every word from the back catalogue.

What a day! Champagne Supernova still rings round my head - a heady blast of nostalgia transformed into a fresh zeitgeist for Gen Z. 🌟

MEET THE TRADERS • Banh Vi

Inspired by their travels in Southeast Asia, Harry and Jess wanted to bring a taste of Hanoi back to MCR after falling in love with the Vietnamese capital city. And so, BANH VI was born.

These guys are all about simple done right. Only the freshest ingredients make up their inventive menu of steaming noodle bowls, delicious banh mi and inventive small plates (perfect with a pint, we must say).

Harry makes us their classic OG tofu banh mi and chopped fried chicken. And if that don’t make your mouth water, we don’t know what will.

Catch @banh.vi alongside our four other indie traders, serving up at New Century Kitchen from 12PM Tues-Sun.

Visited @newcenturykitchenmcr yesterday for the first time & this tofu banh mi from @banh.vi deserved its own post bc it was a 10/10! The perfect crusty baguette filled with loads of tofu which had the best texture and crunchy pickled vegetables with mayo and bbq sauce 🤤

Meet Harry, owner, director and head chef of @banh.vi , he’s launched a new menu this week at New Century, read what he’s got to say below :

“We’re excited to bring these dishes into our menu.

Making Pho is a big deal to us because it’s one of the first dishes which changed my perspective on what food could be when I first ate it in Vietnam.

Our new rice options aren’t as strictly traditional but I think that adds to a great experience when you delve into our menu.

Our slow roasted pork collar is rubbed with our fermented chilli and garlic sauce and roasted for 6 hours using Aspall Cider, master stock and spices. It’s insanely good. Our classic rice dishes are still available on our Lunch Deal!”

Find these along with other new dishes on Banh Vi’s menu, available 6 days a week (Tuesday-Sunday)
