Some gifts from last night. The lyrics leftover in the hat plus the custom Litograph from @julia_fein_ which straight up made my cry. I have about 10 million thank yous to send today, but wanted to start with this. Thank you to everyone who came out and shared their energy, their goofiness, and their delicious lyrics. ❤️

Today's featured artist is the effervescent Hannah Bakke @bannah_hakke !

Hannah came to Argo with a desire to investigate the way the profane can become sacred in the specific space of the dive bar. She very quickly struck up musical connections with local musicians, explored the world of rembetika, and worked on a new draft of her original musical- a clever bluesy retelling of Adam and Eve story. Bravo Hannah, you set the beastie free! 💫 (& crafted a fabulous tiny theater for the Argo archive).

About Hannah:
Hannah Bakke is a singer-songwriter and musical theatre composer based in New York City. Originally from Minnesota, she grew up playing guitar and mandolin in a family folk band and brings the warmth and community-mindedness of the genre into her theatrical composition.

Hannah's work often gravitates towards characters in denial of their desires, and what it takes to push them over the edge. What does it look like to embrace wildness? How hot does the pot have to get?

She currently has two projects in development:

🐍 The Garden

A bluegrass riff on the garden of Eden story that reimagines Eden as a dive bar, with Adam, Eve and Lucifer fronting the house band. Hannah released a concept album for the project last year which can be found on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube.

🦗LOCUST

A horror musical inspired by the Jekyll-and-Hyde-esque transformation that grasshoppers make into locusts in times of scarcity. LOCUST was commissioned by Trademark Theatre for their 2026 In the Works development series.

Hannah is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and her original work has been performed and developed with Out of the Box Theatrics, RE/VENUE NYC, The NYC Rogue Theatre Festival, Musical Theatre Factory, the Children’s Theatre Company, Trademark Theatre, and Prospect Musicals. She teaches elementary students how to write their own musicals with the New York City Children’s Theater and is a member of the New York City Songwriters Collective.

@heartbeet03 somehow managed to put our bones into words (an incredible feat) and i feel so lucky to have been able to play a small part in the building of the new world that is dar tarjameh, in translation.

thank you, sitara, for your light, @greggovanacker for your brilliant casting genius, @abbymohaddes for honoring Tarjeh’s story so expertly, @vivianfarahani for your curiosity, and @nicoraimont for being the glue.

@shyama.music.theater was working tirelessly alongside our cohort on a breathtaking new musical of her own, the sound of an anklet. wasif, kishan, hannah, nina, and miles—you are brilliant.

none of this would have been possible without dev and the @theatreincolor team at the beautiful bingham camp. abigail, anuka, emmalee, marlon, maikke, and andy—you make this place a home away from home. thank you for all that you do.

brown kids kicking ass and taking names will always be my favorite story ❤️
