A little team spirit goes a long way 🌱

We stopped by @maxandhelens, @openmarket.la x @mrjong_ & @lasita.la to see how they get their teams in sync, fired up, and ready for service.

把纽约野路子搬进LA快闪🥪

Today 10/9/26 in Ktown Los Angeles my friends and I are doing a Việt-Cajun shrimp katsu sandwhich pop-up, an Open Market x Mr. Jong collab; we are serving 88 covers & it started at 11a PST and the combo with our smoked plum black tea is anticipated to sell out QUICK.

📍🍔 3339 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90010

I’ll be there in spirit (I’m still in NYC) but wanted to share some inspiration about the flyer designs and overall process; I LOVE designing but rarely talk through my creative thinking. In NYC the other day I walked by the crazy branding of Spicy Village in Chinatown and the colors left me speechless. It also called upon the red and green colors we already used for our Việt-Cajun boil we hosted back in March of 2025. Along with some flame graphics I pulled while riding the bus in NYC from 1915 Lanzhou Noodles (E 26th St has a way shorter line) back to my climbing gym in LES, the graphical idea solidified, but the flame inspo just recalled what we already made in 2025, collaborating with Chraz and reusing his flame oval and type setting. Enjoy some photos from our 2025 boil, and a cute chat about how we landed on the music Sittin’ Sidewayz by Big Pokey and Paul Wall from Bao’s incredible HTOWN BOILER ROOM playlist.

Special shout out ofc to Ralph (and OM!) for hosting and providing the infrastructure, the guidance and the care that glues us all together, as well as the shrimp artwork sourced from bầu cua cá cọp, the dice game often played at tết, Vietnamese New Years. It really takes a village‼️

If there is anything that this past year has taught me, it’s that loss is the hardest but most transformative of all of life’s lessons. Loss is a painful but necessary teacher and we rarely understand or appreciate it right away. Loss is hard. People enter your life and if you dare, you get to know and love them deeply. They become a part of you and you’re never the same after. Sometimes they leave on their own accord and other times they are gone unexpectedly without so much as a goodbye. As painful as this can be, each loss offers a deepening in understanding of what was shared, a reckoning of what no longer is and ultimately asks us whether we have the courage to love even deeper the next time, knowing that we will lose people again along the way.

Mel, I can hardly believe that you are gone. And even though you are no longer of this physical realm, you are still immeasurably loved and missed beyond what I could ever hope to capture in these words. Everyone that knew you knew your deep intuition and gentle heart, your loyalty, care and loving devotion to your family and friends. You never wavered in your commitment to showing up for any of your loved ones. The joy that you brought to everyone around you will never be replaced nor forgotten.

37 is much too young my friend 🥺 I am heartbroken because I will miss you so much. But I trust that the universe will reveal its lessons in due time, even if I don’t understand it all right now. Until then, I’ll be singing along with you in my heart. I love you Mel, god bless you baby girl. Rest easy in paradise 🕊️

Still absolutely shocked and gutted by learning of the untimely passing of my lil cousin Mel. @melinyawe She was always so full of life and always so positive and making sure we all good, even tho she was going thru battles with lupus and autoimmune awareness. The life of the party, we always had some fun cousin times with her and our cousins from Texas, Florida, Cleveland and of course all the LA cousins. She was always so excited to see us in LA and visiting me in NYC! We will all miss you and your energy. Thinking about Tita Glo, Tito Romy and cousins @djmanilaice & @markmolinyawe and all the fam! Rest easy Mel and continue the party and karaoke!
