Tried something new! This past Saturday I competed in my first weightlifting competition.

For the past five or so years, olympic weightlifting has been a big part of my life, but always just as a personal thing—me, my weights, and my garage. I decided I wanted to see what it would be like to train for something, make weight, the whole thing. And it was a blast, largely due to the other people pictured here.

At the competition they asked me, “What team do you train with?” “My family,” I said. And I was serious! They really were my crew—cheered me on, were flexible when I had to train, accommodated when I was eating chicken and rice for the twentieth time in a row while they had normal dinner 😂

I couldn’t have done it without them, and I wouldn’t have wanted to anyway.

2nd attempt snatch. Being out there on a platform with spectators and referees was a very different feel from the garage 😳

3rd attempt clean and jerk. Had more in the tank for sure, but was happy to go 3 for 3 on these.

Had to practice my kilo to pound mental math a lot in the warmup area.

Olympian and 2x defending European Champion, Sarah Davies.

And the strongest American weightlifter, Kolbi Ferguson. Watching this guy lift is jaw-dropping.

Best crew ever.

After weeks of a dialed in weight cut, I can’t tell you how awesome this burger was 😂

Cheers to a great day! 🙌🏻💪🏻
