We are excited to announce UM Dance Club’s 2nd guest artist of the semester - Franco Nieto with Open Space Dance! Franco will be hosting a free, all-levels contemporary modern dance workshop on Friday, October 23rd, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the PARTV Open Space, studio 005. Please only come if you can stay the entire time. Here’s a little bit about the Portland based dance company Open Space Dance, as well as their show “Do You See Me” happening from October 23rd-25th at the Westside Theater: “Open Space is a creative container for dance and movement where EVERY body is welcome. Through professional dance productions and accessible, high-quality dance education, we cultivate artists of all ages, foster new creative voices, and build a vibrant and connected dance community.” Do You See Me? Inspired by his upbringing in a conservative rural/suburban town, Do You See Me? follows a young man navigating identity, belonging, and self-worth while learning to survive behind layers of camouflage. Masking both his queerness and learning disability to avoid rejection, the protagonist ultimately confronts his fear of being seen and discovers what it means to stand openly as himself. Created in close collaboration with Open Space Company Artists, Resident Choreographer Noelle Kayser, costume designer Joshua Myrie, and vocalist and musician Onry, Do You See Me? is rooted in vulnerability, trust, and shared humanity. While deeply grounded in queer experience, the work speaks to something universal: the risk of discovering who you are and the courage it takes to stop hiding. Tickets to their show here: https://www.thewestsidetheater.com/do-you-see-me UM students: DM us for student code to receive student tickets! We hope to see you there!! PC | Michelle Bliss

They called it Open Space. Located in the heart of Portland’s Kenton neighborhood, Open Space is a nonprofit dance organization that nurtures dancers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The Company at Open Space is a collective of nationally acclaimed artists known for bold physicality, emotional sensitivity, and fearless curiosity. Through dynamic partnering and an intimate creative container, audiences are close enough to witness dancers making visceral, instinct-driven choices in the moment. In the charged beauty and chaos of performance, they remind us what it means to feel deeply and to be fully alive. This project is supported in part by Creative West Grants. 📸: @michelleblissphotography #missouladance #dance #dancecompany #missoulamt #montanalife #barebaitdance #montanadance #dancemt #choreographers #guestartist #guestcompany
