This time the Sixth Ring Six is for fans of Amyl and the Sniffers’ Comfort to Me.

Whoever thinks punk is dead just isn’t paying attention. Each of these acts brings something unique to the scene with releases in the 2020s, a few of them this year.

🔥🔥🔥The Chats – High Risk Behaviour LP🔥🔥🔥

Queensland teenage shed rock punks The Chats release their debut full length of snotty, no frills and essential nuggets. Everything happened by word of mouth and by mistake but Smoko became an internet sensation, they started getting props from the rich and famous and they started selling out massive venues. Each track on their debut High Risk Behaviour is a bundle of fun about idiot moments in their lives like Pub Feed, The Clap and Internet Theft. There is no deep or hidden meaning – each song does what it says on the tin, You can't help smile and fall in love with them. It sounds like Aussie greats the Cosmic Psychos downing beers with The Saints before doing shots with the Buzzcocks and then spewing it all up behind the kebab van. An album that’s over in 28 blistering, funny, sweaty, unforgettable minutes, with half of its 14 songs failing to reach the two-minute mark.

March = Australia!

It’s the Aussie Special 🇦🇺 for the March #copypopsnobquartet

My contribution:
Aussie punkrock with a more colourful artwork. As @popsnobrecordcovers I’m also a sucker for Aussie punk. And there’s many 😎 to pick from but this quartet is my favourites atm.

💥 R.M.F.C. - “Club Hits”. Magic Garage/Punk Rock from Sydney! (@r.m.f.c.fanclub on @antifaderecords - 2023)
💥 Radio Birdman - “Radios Appear”. A true classic. So good! (@radiobirdman.official on Trafalgar, 1977)
💥 Split System - “Vol. 1”. A modern essential. Fantastic band. (@splitsystem666 on @leglessrecords / @drunkensailorrecords 2022)
💥 The Unknowns - “East Coast Low”. Another masterpiece from Australia, these lads rocks! (@the_unknowns_ on @bargainbinrecords / @drunkensailorrecords 2023)

So dig deep in your recordcolkection and join the March issue of the copypopsnobquartet with your Aussie platters.
Any musical style is allowed of course. Any colour too.

The Unknowns!

Anyone? 😄

The @the_unknowns_ are in Europe right now and played live in my hometown in @cafe.bosch last night.
The Unknowns (with Josh Hardy of @thechatslovebeer fame on guitar & vocals) play top notch Aussie garage punk & roll. Tight and catchy!Best music to enjoy and see live. A great night it was 💥🎸
Got me ‘Looking from the outside’ after the show. It’s out on @drunkensailorrecords / @bargainbinrecords
Tonight The Unknowns will play live in @veragroningen🔥 Go see them live and drink some beers!

Oh, and don’t forget to check Hardy’s band ‘Loose Lips’ (@stay_looselips ) as well. A bit more glam ‘n’ powerpop ‘n’ punk and Joan Jett than The Unknowns 😄. That LL record is available on @bachelorrecords.

DAY 15 / 30 - 30 Day Album Cover Challenge
KING STINGRAY - King Stingray

Splendour in the Mud, 2023: Day 1 was rained out and cancelled so everyone was in a rubbish mood. Day 2, everyone was hyped to be in the gates and music playing. Those who had to catch the bus home at the end of the night (myself included) was scarred from having to wait in line from 9:30pm until 6:30am the next morning for the bus. We got home at 6:45 and slept for 2 hours and rushed back to the festival to catch King Stingray play early on the 3rd day.

WOW!!

All of my friends were in awe and crying (again, myself included). The band had the whole crowd in the palm of their hands as thousands of years of cultural history oozed from the speakers and encapsulated everyone and their imaginations for 45 minutes. The bassline from Malk Mirri Wayin caught me instantly and had me dying for the release of the album, King Stingray, so that I could listen to it on repeat.

I listened to that album on repeat while redesigning this cover and it struck me at how important an album it is for contemporary Australia. Continuing the work of their uncles and fathers of Yothu Yindi, King Stingray will be a band that will be the soundtrack of generations and political change.
