Join me on Tabari’s Take!

It’s my YouTube channel where I discuss film and culture.

I watch something and if I have something to say about it. I give you my take.

Lately, I’ve been watching Hoochie Daddies season 3

I used to play the trombone. For 12 years, actually. I loved it. I was usually the only girl or one of few in the entire brass section.

Together, the awkward kids would comfortably sit in the back, carrying the sound of the band with deep bone-chilling harmonies. Never the solo, never easy to spot in the audience. You just had to know how to listen to hear us.

When I gave up playing, I took up photography and another 15 year love affair began. I even started a business with that photography.

Over time something shifted. People didn’t just rely on what I could do. They were hiring me because of who I was. I started coaching. Coaching allowed me to put the camera down. I was scared. Why did I love it so much when I put the camera down?

Last night, I made a choice. I went to a photography event as a model. No one knew about my photography. Everyone saw me as the person meant to be visible. The person to inspire the photography. The one in front of the camera rather than behind it.

It was uncomfortable. I wanted to run away and hide behind Tabari… but I stayed and posed while several talented photographers took my photo and gave me direction. People watched and admired. This wasn’t what I was used to, but it is what I’ve been gearing up to.

Glennon Doyle says in her memoir “Untamed” we speak 2 languages - imagination and indoctrination. Imagination is our native tongue and I’m learning to use it more often.

So, here’s the update - I’m a coach. I work with amazing, inspiring, curious people who know their authenticity is their North Star. I help them get there by shifting their relationship with money from one of scarcity to abundance… rigidity to flow… constricted to expansion.

Something to celebrate!

My short film “For The Culture” was the topic of discussion in my recent interview with Canvas Rebel.

Talking about the process was such a great way to unpack my feelings and everything we went through to make this happen.

I’m so grateful for the crew I had and support I received to make this happen.

There is a timeline in which I’m just a rich food creator and only the A1-Day 1 will know I was coaching for a living this whole time

3 years ago, my husband and I moved to Los Angeles.

We sold our house, most of our things, and rebuilt our business in this new city.

We explored what our lives could look like if we stepped outside of our comfort zone… got to go to the beach on a random Tuesday… and met new people.

While it wasn’t easy…

Los Angeles gave us permission to think bigger, allowed us to stretch our production capability, expand our network, be more creative, and define who we are without the influence of people we grew up around.

We started with photography and evolved to podcast production, filmmaking, and I got Certified in Trauma of Money and began coaching.

Sometimes when you want a big change, shift the environment. Those first 3 years kicked my ass, but I’m proud of the women I’m becoming
