While we impatiently await opening night, swipe through our quick-start guide to learn all about Floyd’s Susannah! 👉

What is Susannah about? 🌌 In the hills of Tennessee, a young woman’s life is destroyed by a malicious rumor that turns her judgmental community against her.

What is Susannah REALLY about? 🔇 Hypocrisy, injustice, and how hard it is for the truth to be heard.

What’s special about this production? 🎵 HGO’s production is staged by soprano-turned-director Patricia Racette, who has played the lead role herself to great acclaim. It also celebrates the centenary of composer/librettist Carlisle Floyd, a major player in HGO’s history.

What should I listen for? 🎻 Country fiddlin’, square-dance tunes, and rousing revival hymns. There are echoes of Appalachian folk music in Susannah’s heart-wrenching “The Trees on the Mountain.”

Who are the stars? 🌟 As Susannah, soprano Angel Blue returns after her moving portrayal of Bess; baritone Rod Gilfry takes on the role of Rev. Olin Blitch for the first time; and tenor Bille Bruley makes his HGO debut as Susannah’s brother Sam. James Gaffigan conducts his first production as Music Director Designate.
