37 today. 🎂

My annual birthday post to mark the end of a period in my life before I begin another.
-
This year was filled with a sense of completion, gratitude and relief. After many years of being stuck in a state of flux and not knowing where I or my work was at, I feel for the first time in a long while that I’ve taken steps forward in life.
-
This began when I had my exhibition Saturated Edge @8wallgallery and was finally able to present a series that had been in limbo for so long. More than the images themselves, it allowed me to gain more perspective on myself as an artist and what I needed to continue working towards.
-
The other large accomplishment was getting my first apartment in NYC. Establishing roots here enabled me to have a home and settle in one place, which hasn’t been the case for a long time. I was relieved that I didn’t need to constantly be on the move.
-
Between all the personal flux and exhibitions I’ve presented over the past few years, I decided to slow down a bit as well. I spent most of the year getting my life situated and becoming further acquainted with NYC and my friendships here.
-
I never slowed my creativity, but now that I’ve gotten a better sense of where I’m at in life, I’m more excited for what I will be able to accomplish in year 37. There’s a lot I want to achieve, and I feel that nothing will stop me from reaching my goals. Here’s to another year of continued growth as a creative and individual.

What a thrill to read such perceptive writing about my work by @barning in @twocoatsofpaint! Two Coats was the first art publication I ever put in my reading rotation—it was instrumental in giving me the lay of the land as a green artist trying to find my way right out of undergrad. And it still is! It is a great full circle moment to be in their archive now.

Some snippets of Bill’s review for your feed, but I hope you’ll go read the full thing on the Two Coats of Paint site—link in bio!

And if you’re in the Kingston area, I hope you’ll make it to @headstonegalleryny to see what he’s talking about!
