Only 4 acres… so we wanted the whole property to feel connected. A few simple things made a huge difference: matching the exterior lights @barnlightau, sticking with the same Colorbond colours, repeating recycled brick and timber, and keeping the landscaping consistent. Together it helped make the house, stables and paddocks feel like they actually belong together. Designing the stables was probably one of the hardest parts of fitting everything onto our 4 acres. Our block is long and thin, and we were trying to squeeze a lot into it. An 18m x 8m stable shed, a full-sized arena, paddocks, drainage, vehicle access — and we still wanted to be able to drive around the property rather than have the stables cut the block in half. Then came the Shire approval and conditions around where the shed could actually sit in relation to the house. We spent months planning, measuring and moving things around on paper, trying to fit the stable design we wanted while still keeping the whole property practical. Gee this was hard But looking back, I’m glad we spent so much time on the layout before we started building. On a small property, where you put something can matter just as much as what you build. 6 months ago we began the last piece of our renovation, the office/shed. It’s divided into two seperate areas, with the first set of French doors leading to the office and the second the shed. We took a road trip to Castlemaine Vic @thesalvageyard to search for an old window for the front of the cottage and ended up coming back not only with a stunning original window but old turned posts for a quarter of the price of what we were quoted for new. The whole building was an investment financially that’s for sure, but one that was worth every cent. With spring on our doorstep, I cannot wait for her to soften even more into the new surrounding landscaping. A few details below👇🏻 . . Library is nearly full! Hubby wanted a library so we built this out of @fantasticfurniture basic book shelves units. We started this 3 days before I gave birth to my son 😂..It’s one of my favourite rooms in the house. It used to be our formal lounge but when we moved in I swapped it with the study as it had an external wall with no windows, which allowed me to build our wood fire. I enclosed the room by customising @humedoors doors and glass panels. The bonus about owner building and custom designing our home, I changed things as I built them. . . First day back in the home office after a 2 year wait. This was the last part of our renovation and we are so happy with the result🏡 . We travelled to Castlemaine Vic and purchased a pre loved window and old turned posts and timbers to match the existing cottage (instigated by receiving a $7500 quote for one new timber sash window😵‍💫) has anyone else been? Such an incredible place and felt good to be re purposing instead of buying new. . Painted in @dulux Natural White 100% French doors @duluxaus White Duck quarter. School holidays currently and my middle daughter requested a mini makeover in her room. She used to have my old king bed which unfortunately broke recently. I had my old cast iron antique bed from when I was 18 years old under the house, I got it out and repainted it. She reorganised her wall flower stickers, a new desk, added a rug and now she will decorate her shelves. Everything in her room she picked herself, she loves redoing/changing it up 😊.. . . Dining room in buttercream @porterspaints. I love watching this colour change during the day from the sunlight. . I painted all the chairs on the sides white ( some used to be black ) and I replaced the end chairs with new timber ones. Should I paint them white as well?… . . Table is @gumtreeaus find I sanded down. The buffett is @gumtreeaus - I painted and added material curtains to the doors.
