i'm stephen. i make ceramic sculpture and drawings on paper and mirror @stephenfjames

i studied sculpture at the university of the arts / philadelphia college of art (rip). i've worked with ceramics since high school into college.

i got back into ceramics thanks to studio barro. the closure of studio barro gave me the opportunity to form studio clay-op with gaby and vivian to keep the community formed by studio barro and to combine our art practice with our ideology through a worker-owned cooperative.

i do tech, admin, and instruction at the studio as well as squeeze in time for my own art.

book a one-off intro throwing class with me fridays or sundays and i'll show you some shit!

Pottery🏺Date

I went on a pottery date w/ some of my older sisters & it was so much fun! 🫧

Our instructor @definitely_a_duck made the experience easy to understand & stressless ! She continued to reassure us that any mistakes are fine, the clay is washable & if we didn’t like our pieces there was a bunch of clay to start over! 🙂‍↔️

We will DEFINITELY be returning, as we all agreed we find a new hobby ⭐️

Thank you again @barrobk for allowing us to experience this together & for having Gabi as our amazing guide! Super helpful and anytime we’re back we want her 😊

mark þe man (allegedly)
now after 150+ hours sculpting, time to let it dry for several weeks. maybe it won't explode or crack when fired in the kiln? up to the clay gods now.

✨Happy Monday 😊 Hope y’all have a great week ahead. 🫶🏻❤️ Sharing some snapshots from the homecafe 🏡☕️💕
✨Been working on my latte art these days and it’s making some progress I think 🤔 I’m finally getting the hang of steaming milk with oat milk since I’m lactose and can’t use whole milk which I found is def. easier to work with on my Breville. 🤗🙌🏻✨ Documenting my progress and I’m happy even though I can’t pour the same design again 😂🤣 haha.
