Zurich’s best brunch is only open one day a week.
inside @bauraulac the hotel that’s been on the lake since 1844 and still run by the same family six generations later. wagner premiered an opera here. the nobel peace prize was dreamed up in one of these rooms. and you can walk in off bahnhofstrasse without being a guest

french toast 9.5
scrambled eggs bagel 9
omelette 8
avocado toast 8
raspberry champagne sorbet from the kitchen — 1000/10

sundays only, 11am to 3pm 📍 @baurszurich

save this for the next sunday you want to do something properly. which one would you order first?

#zurichfoodguide #brunchinzurich #bauraulac #zurichrestaurant #foodieswitzerland

the simplest plate on the menu and it still outdoes most brunches in this city.

the bagel was the sleeper hit of the table.

designed by the studio behind annabel’s in london, which explains a lot.

the syrup comes warm in a copper pot so you pour it yourself and it never goes soggy.

you can walk in off bahnhofstrasse. no room key required.

A little surprise from the kitchen, not on the menu.

Last slide is always the fit

they poured me a glass of a 1,200 fr bottle and i’m still thinking about the cookie
@taos_zurich is two minutes off bahnhofstrasse and it does not feel like zurich back there. old trees, umbrellas, string lights in the hedges, and a terrace i’d rate 1000/10 without thinking about it
what we ordered 👇
crispy chicken tacos 9.3 — shells unbelievably crispy, korean bbq sauce to die for, tamarillo and chives finishing it
us beef filet 9.5 — soo tender, so juicy, teriyaki sauce the cherry on top
fries allumette 9 — the crunch, and just the right amount of salt
beef tartar 9.2 — fresh, well seasoned, bread soo soft and buttery
scottish salmon filet 9 — seasoned impeccably, cooked just right, though the anticucho sauce wasn’t for me
stir fried baby broccoli 8.5 — wafu sauce, one of the best sides here
roasted cabbage 8 — the truffle gives it an extra kick
us black pepper beef 9.4 — strips cut flawlessly, sauce that compliments the meat instead of burying it. if you order one thing, order this
half baked chocolate cookie 9.7 — one of the best i’ve had anywhere
cheesecake creme brulee 9.5 — surface perfectly caramelized, the crumble and raspberry combo is terrific
hundred acre 2019 — 1000/10. they offered me a glass to try and i’ll be thinking about it for a while 🙏🏽
prices, since someone always asks: filet 61, seabass 60, tartar 40, sides 8 to 12. not cheap, doesn’t pretend to be, and everything landed at the level
fit: angelboy cap, weekday tee over an angelboy shirt, hwa jeans, 4hunnid block runners
save this for the next time someone asks where to eat in zurich 📌 and tell me which one you’re ordering first, i already know half of you are saying the cookie

berlin has a purple problem and 179 coffee bar is the reason 🟣

you’ve seen ube all over your feed lately but most people ordering it don’t actually know what it is. quick version — ube is a purple yam from the philippines. not taro. taro is starchy and mild, ube is softer and sweeter with this vanilla coconut thing that doesn’t taste like anything else. filipino families have been making ube halaya for generations. it’s not new. the rest of the world just took a hundred years to catch up.

and the colour is real. no dye. it’s the same natural pigment that makes blueberries what they are. which is exactly why it went viral — it’s the rare flavour that tastes as good as it looks.

179 sits on a quiet stretch in berlin. wooden benches outside, chandelier inside that has no business being that beautiful in a café this small. looks like a matcha spot from the street. the ube section is the sleeper hit.

what we got:

🟣 ube crêpe cake — 9/10
twelve layers of paper thin crêpe with ube cream between every one. dusted on top so the first bite hits harder than the rest. right amount of sweet, which matters because ube desserts go sugary fast. this one didn’t. melts and doesn’t sit heavy.

🟣 ube tiramisu latte — 9.5/10
this is the one. cold ube latte layered purple and cream with a full slab of ube tiramisu sitting on top of the glass. eat the tiramisu first, then drink it, and the cream melts down into the latte. so refreshing. creamy without being thick. the tiramisu was the cherry on top.

matcha broke through first, then hojicha, then black sesame. ube is next up and it has something the others don’t — the colour does the marketing by itself. everyone who orders it takes a photo. that’s why you’re seeing ube menus in london, paris, amsterdam and now berlin.

📍179 coffee bar, berlin
weekday if you can. weekends there’s a line.

fit —
stüssy jacket
pushpush pants
timberland cap
timbs

save this for your berlin list 🟣
