First Lady Melania Trump delivered remarks at the 2026 United States Senate Spouses Luncheon in Washington, DC, where she outlined the four community-centric pillars of foster care.

Following the U.S. House of Representatives’ unanimous passage of the Fostering the Future Act, Mrs. Trump encouraged the Senate spouses to help inspire swift action in the U.S. Senate, calling the effort a “moral obligation” to protect and support youth through education, love, opportunity, and resilience.

The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the bipartisan Fostering the Future Act (H.R. 7432) on May 19, 2026. The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.

The legislation marks the first major overhaul of the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program since 1999 and aims to improve outcomes for transition-age foster youth.
