Barton Community College head coach Jeremy Coombs wants his program to be known for playing the right way and carrying a championship-level standard every day.

For Coombs, that means four-year coaches walking away from a Barton practice knowing his players are disciplined, coachable and understand how to play the game.

“When a coach leaves my practice, I want them to know we’ve been doing the right things.”

The expectations at Barton go far beyond simply having a successful season. Coombs wants the program consistently positioned to compete for national championships and for his players to understand the standard that comes with that goal.

“We want to win multiple, and the expectations are high here.”

Barton Community College head coach Jeremy Coombs knows the talent and depth are there with this year’s group, but turning that talent into a team remains the priority.

Coombs wants this roster to embrace many of the same qualities that made Barton’s 2024 National Championship team special — sharing the basketball, taking the right shots, defending together and always having each other’s back.

“They’ve got to buy into the fact that probably not everybody’s going to score 15, 20 points a game.”

Barton also added significant size, with six players standing 6’9” or taller and enough versatility to put multiple big bodies on the floor together.

“We definitely went out and got the size. But again, it’s just putting them together and making them a team.”

Aleer Chol has committed to Barton Community College, joining a strong group of fellow Aussies already on coach Jeremy Coombs' roster.

The 6'9" forward out of Canberra Gunners and Lake Ginninderra brought real offensive firepower on tour in July 2025, playing NXTPro and Pro16 across Richmond and Bryan, Texas. An elite scorer and shooter from the perimeter with serious upside as an athlete, Chol drew interest across the board, Division I, Division II, NAIA, and junior college coaches all took notice.

That competitiveness didn't stop at tour. Aleer carried it straight into the Australian Schools Championship with Lake Ginninderra, continuing to show out on a bigger stage.

Excited to see Aleer's game grow at Barton Community College. #BeGreat
