Happy Birthday to my brother, Ilir! 🇦🇱🤙🏼 🇽🇰 🌍

It’s not every day you become friends with someone who’s one of only 500+ people in history to have visited every country in the world. As the first Kosovar/Albanian to accomplish it, the youngest German to do so, and one of the youngest travelers from the Balkans to complete the journey, you’ve inspired countless people—including me.

Meeting you in Syria 🇸🇾 through NomadMania @nomadmaniaworld was one of the highlights of my travels. Thanks to MorinasWorld Travel @morinasworld & Tours, it became one of the best trips I’ve ever experienced, and of course thank you to Harry @harrynomad 🙌🏼. We quickly realized we had more in common than just a love for travel—from our military backgrounds (you in the Bundeswehr and me in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army) to our similar work in executive protection, it made for an instant friendship.

You’re one of those rare friends I know I can meet anywhere in the world, pick up right where we left off, and have an unforgettable adventure. I genuinely look up to what you’ve accomplished, and I hope to follow in your footsteps and someday join the small group of people who have visited every country on Earth.

Wishing you an incredible birthday, my friend. Here’s to many more countries, crazy adventures, and crossing paths somewhere around the world again soon. Happy Birthday, brother! 🍻🌍

I want to thank NomadMania for inviting me on this trip to Azerbaijan, Karabakh, and Nakhchivan. It was a great opportunity to meet other obsessed travelers and I’m thankful to be recognized as a UN Master. It was cool to meet almost 100 other UN Masters and soon-to-be masters. It was great hearing their stories as well as just being around like-minded people. Not only did I learn a new things and made new memories, I’ve met some new friends that I hope to travel with soon.

Today we visited Başlıbel (Bashlibel), a village in the Kalbajar District of Azerbaijan 🇦🇿.

Local government officials were kind enough to show us around and to teach us about the area and its history. As we drove through the immense valleys, I noticed how lush and green 🌳 everything was, the tranquil river 🏞️, wild horses 🐴 , and more.

For someone like me to visit a place with such a sad history due to many years of conflict, it made me appreciate life. Despite the sadness of seeing the destroyed villages, I know after speaking to many Azeris, that they will rebuild and life will begin again. Azeri are prideful, patriotic people who are intelligent and resilient 💪🏼.

Shoutout to all the drivers, the local police and military for taking care of us. We would not be able to see your country the way we are without you.

time slowed when one is not distracted by the lack of internet, and with eyes off the phone screen, one start to observe the vast beauty of nature and marvel at…. how I miss surfing the web.

due to the remarkable biodiversity, socotra is sometimes referred to as the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean. it has 6 endemic birds, host to migrating birds including flamingoes. it is also home to 19 endemic species of reptiles. other endemic species include mollusks , algae and a fresh water crab which I had the pleasure of being pinched and I’m proud to say it hurts.

but what is famous in socotra is its endemic flora - 380 species not found anywhere else on earth. the most famous of which is the dragon blood tree.

however conservation is limited here due to the civil war and tourism. many of the dragon blood trees bear vandalism of names of passing tourist. I engraved the words “do not vandalise” on these century old trees to deter other visitors.
