@basharsuleiman aka Lil Asaf is a Palestinian artist based in Amman, Jordan
With a muffled rage and sometimes a lancinating melancholy, Lil Asaf's flow resembles a magnetic and cavernous soliloquy. His lyricism guides deconstructed productions with industrial colours: a grime in Arabic, cracked by ambient flashes.

Through the B7L9 residency programme, Zainab Hasoon brought together Tunisian artists Achref Bettaieb, Becem Sdiri, Ghad Lemjid, Jack Montaly, Jawher Ouni, Souheila Ghorbel, Mo Mezghani (a.k.a. <intrinsic>).

The exhibition on display is the result of unexpected encounters between the artists that emerged during the process of its development, and within the space of the Art Station over the course of the residency.

LIL ASAF (live)

Bashar Suleiman aka Lil Asaf is a Jordanian-Palestinian artist based in Amman.

With a muffled rage and sometimes a lancinating melancholy, Lil Asaf's flow resembles a magnetic and cavernous soliloquy. His lyricism guides deconstructed productions with industrial colours: a grime in Arabic, cracked by ambient flashes. Both producer and MC, Lil Asaf multiplies his collaborations in a forward-looking approach that federates the scenes and works towards their communitarian and social affirmation.

*** to mark the end of the year we will retrospectively repost some of the activities and outcomes at C.A.N.V.A.S. during 2021. Huge thanks to all involved, and love for the community that grows out of cooperation ***

First up is Apocope, a compilation released on the 12th of February 2021 with

BILLY BULTHEEL @billyjohnbultheel
OLAN MONK @olanmonk
BASHAR SULEIMAN @basharsuleiman

NADAH EL SHAZLY @nadah_elshazly

Apocope is the second C.A.N.V.A.S. compilation, following Cipher (2019) and featuring another grouping of dispersed artists responding to a call-out under a unifying theme/sky. Where Cipher approached codification, Apocope approaches the cut-off point of a pop operative. An ‘apocope’ is a word truncated—a sound omitted—moulded into a shape that rolls off of the tongue yet carries within it further significance.
