art+mgmt is pleased to share that Basil Kincaid (@basilkincaid) is the artist in residence at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (@crystalbridgesmuseum) this fall, maintaining a studio at The Momentary (@themomentary) in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The residency follows Kincaid’s inclusion in America 250: Common Threads at Crystal Bridges, where a quilted work by the artist was exhibited and subsequently acquired by the Museum. Kincaid’s family has quilting roots in Arkansas, and this sustained time in Bentonville offers space for new research grounded in that lineage.

While in residence, Kincaid will develop a series of works on paper and lay the foundation for new bodies of textile work. The residency also extends the Artist’s practice of play beyond the studio and into shared communal spaces, through game nights and calisthenics workshops that position physical movement and exploration as modes of creative practice.

We look forward to following the work that emerges from this time in Bentonville!

We are thrilled to be listed in this year’s ArtNews Top 200 Collectors! Bob Clark founded Clayco, a design and construction company based in St. Louis, Missouri, that considers “the art and science of building” its center point, in 1984. It wasn’t until 2010, however, when he met his wife, Jane, that he began taking collecting more seriously. Together, their passion for art has grown into a collection of more than 300 works (and counting) of contemporary artists, with many of them lining the Clayco offices’ walls across the United States.

“Helping artists created enthusiasm in us—being with them on the journey, seeing them grow as artists and become well known in the art community,” Jane told the Observer in a 2026 interview about working with emerging contemporary artists. The Clarks met Theaster Gates before his rise to fame in the art world, for instance, and early in their collecting acquired work by such artists as Derrick Adams, Rashid Johnson, and Ebony G. Patterson, prior to the establishment of their current markets and reputations.

“We are drawn to artists who are not only creating exceptional work, but who are shaping culture through the way they live and engage with others,” the Clarks explained.

💪🎨 What happens when art, exercise, and community come together?

St. Louis artist Basil Kincaid has helped transform a grassy lot in Gravois Park into a free, artist-designed calisthenics park where neighbors can work out, connect, and spend time outdoors.

The new pocket park, located next to the Melvin Theatre Community Center at Chippewa and Pennsylvania, grew out of Kincaid’s own love of exercise and his desire to bring the kind of communal outdoor fitness spaces he’d seen in other cities to South St. Louis.

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday in support of the unveiling of Basil Kincaid’s (@basilkincaid) new calisthenics pocket park! St. Louis Public Radio (@stlpublicradio) was there, with a story that aired today and is now online.

The park is the culmination of a decade-long practice: calisthenics and fiber arts developing in parallel, each strengthening the other. It is free and open to the public 24/7, located at the corner of Chippewa and Pennsylvania, developed in collaboration with the Melvin Theater Community Center and KOMPAN.

“The quilt-making and the calisthenics all sort of folded in, hand in hand,” Kincaid said. “It was having physical effects too, but I started noticing how the exercise was doing way more for my mind and my spirit.”

You can hear more about the event on stlpr.org. And join us for a workout the next time you’re in the area!
