By far a career year for Seth, he’s taken full advantage of a higher usage with the absence of Ben Simmons. He’s been underrated for some time now, but I love seeing it all translate on the stat sheet as the starting guard for a contending team

But goddamn can this man score. Just like his brother, Seth is one of the league’s premier shooters whose jumper off of catches and hand-offs pairs very nicely next to the gravity Embiid demands down low. His shooting abilities are honestly scary to guard. Trying to trap Embiid literally just means an automatic kick-out to Seth who’s never going to miss those short corners (53.3% on corner 3’s)

I also love that Doc has ramped up Seth’s usage and dedicates more of the playbook to him because, this year, we can really see his versatility as a scorer and not just a catch-and-shooter. Philly sets a lot of screens for this man whose ability to run around them and let shots fly over defenders left and right... And still hitting them is amazing. Sneakily reminiscent of Steph if I’m being honest

In any given game, Seth will run around any number of pin downs, double screens, or flares to generate looks. Pair that with a silky smooth jumper with a high release point and you got Hawkeye as a basketball player. And even then, he’s shown an expanded arsenal inside the 3. Defenders are always going to be compelled to tighten him up on the line with how well he can shoot. Yet, even then, he’s increased his tendency to use pumps and attack closeouts to get inside for easy baskets (75% on shots 0-3 feet from the rim)

Seth Curry is literally a pick-your-poison type of guy to guard and, while he’s maybe not the guy you want as your 3rd/4th best scorer, he’s one helluva player that’ll fit into any offense

How far will Philly go this year? Where do you rank Seth as a shooter? Comment your thoughts below!

Right off the bat, I wanna make it clear that I am NOT someone who makes concrete opinions after a mere 10 games. Especially for a team that’s been without 2 of their stars for a majority of their games

However, what’s immediately striking is that this team does not look like themselves; Giannis is always gonna play like an MVP yet they’re in the bottom half of OFFRTG and DEFRTG

Idk if I want to read into their defense much. DEFRTG is never a 100% accurate way of picturing things, and they most definitely have the personnel to pick things back up over time, One thing I would note is that their bench is very weak defensively—lacking versatility and switchability (Opponents have a 6.5% greater eFG% & 12.6 better OFFRTG when Giannis is off) Consistently slow to close out; noticed a bit of walking and lack of hustle at times

Offensively, Giannis’s usage is slightly higher than last year--obviously credited to Middleton/Jrue being out for a bit As such, the Bucks lose a lot of ball-handling that would’ve otherwise allowed Giannis to run the off-ball, screen-setting, roll-man style of offensive diversity we saw before

Something a bit interesting is Coach Bud’s choice to throw Giannis at 5. I’d hope this finds some success later bc all-out shooting around Giannis is always scary, but so far the supporting cast has yet to hit as consistently as you’d hope (19th in 3PT%). As a result, team’s have more willingness to step in and wall off Giannis, just like Miami did when they kept him at a season-low 15 pts

Again, I have hope for improvement as they regain health and more reps together as a full squad. Nonetheless, these issues shouldn’t be taken lightly and there’s some work to be done
