I will always be the first to say this: there is beauty in vulnerability.

I started Luma. I created it, I hold it, and yes, I am the face behind it.

But I am not Luma.

Luma is the space between all of us.

It is a place for women to come together and put down whatever they have been carrying, whether it feels small, heavy, messy, confusing, painful or impossible to explain.

Luma is vulnerability. Honesty. Softness. Courage. It is being seen without having to perform. Being able to say, “This is where I am today,” and knowing that is enough.

As I move through my 30s, one thing life has taught me is how much people need spaces like this.

I have spent years in therapy. I have done the work. I have had the difficult conversations, learned, unlearned, healed, fallen apart and put pieces back together.

And I am still learning.

Healing did not make me someone who no longer struggles. It taught me not to hide every part of myself that does.

And I have reached a point where I want to share that.

I want to make a show of vulnerability.

Yes, a show.

I want it to have a presence. I want it to be seen. Not for pity, not for attention, but because I want someone to see another woman being open about what she carries and think, “Maybe I’m allowed to feel this too.”

You are allowed to feel it.
You are allowed to show it.
You are allowed to speak about it.
You are allowed to give it somewhere to sit.

And that is why Luma is not me.

Because I need Luma too.

I am not there with all the answers. I am there to share, to listen and to give you the space to do the same. To sit together in all our different stories and realise that we have so much more in common than we think.

You are Luma.

So give me your trust, and I will give you a seat.

A seat where you do not have to be the strongest version of yourself. A seat where every colour of you can spill out.

And you will still be beautiful. @basmadarwich

Meet Basma ✨
Basma traveled to Zanzibar 🌍 and came back with a story worth sharing. Hear it in her own words:

“I truly believe some of your deepest joy and peace lives in moments like these. There’s something about giving a piece of yourself to others that brings you closer to who you really are.

Every time you step into someone else’s world, you come back knowing your own heart a little better. You learn what moves you, what matters to you, and just how much love you have to give. And I think that’s why these experiences fill you in a way that nothing else really can.”

Be the next Nomuhub traveler in the spotlight 🤍

A friend, a therapist, and the baddest B I know since 2020! 🖤

I needed to share this because sometimes we don’t realize how much certain people mean to us.

Years have passed since my very first job in the UAE, when we were simply colleagues and you were my HR. Who would’ve thought that years later, we’d still be here.

Life has changed so much since then, and so many things have happened, but I’m grateful that our connection stayed.

And this is just a little reminder that the “smols things” we do for people might actually be a BIG thing for someone else.

So keep doing what you’re doing. Keep being that person. You have no idea how much of an impact you can have on someone’s life. 🤍

The girl who once needed Luma is the same girl who built it❤️‍🩹

There was a version of me who would have given anything for a place like this. Somewhere I didn’t have to explain why I was struggling. Somewhere I could arrive tired, lost, overwhelmed, hopeful, hopeless and still be welcomed exactly as I was.

I searched for that place for a long time.

And somewhere between breaking, surviving, rebuilding, losing hope and finding it again, I realized that maybe I was meant to create it.

That is what Luma became.

Not a place for people who have it all figured out. A place for the ones still finding their way. For the ones carrying things quietly. For the ones who need to be reminded that struggling is nothing to be ashamed of, surviving does not have to be lonely, and speaking about what hurts does not make you weak.

If everything I went through can become a light for someone walking through a place I once knew so well, then let it.

Let me be the hand I once wished someone would reach out.
Let Luma be the room I once prayed existed.

All you ever have to do is come as you are.

I’ll meet you there🤍

Life between the hard conversations 🤍🎶

We spend so much of our lives trying to hold it all together.

It’s nice to have a place where you don’t have to. 🤍

For women, the message is:
Be powerful, but still soft enough to comfort everyone.
Be intelligent, but never smarter than the room.
Be independent, but still needed.
Be confident, but never arrogant.
Be attractive, but effortlessly.
Be ambitious, but make sure love and motherhood still come first.
Be emotional, but not “crazy.”
Speak up, but stay likable.
Take up space, but delicately.

Women are taught to shrink while succeeding.

And for men:
Be strong no matter what it costs you.
Provide even when you’re drowning.
Protect everyone, even if nobody protects you.
Don’t cry.
Don’t break.
Don’t ask for help.
Be the stable one.
Be desired, respected, financially successful, emotionally controlled.
If you fail, fail silently.

Men are taught to suffer while performing strength.

Women are expected to carry selflessness without collapsing.
Men are expected to carry pressure without collapsing.

Both are punished the moment they become too human.

A woman becomes “too much.”
A man becomes “too weak.”

Different burdens.
Same expectation:
Don’t collapse.
