Ahead of On View, a celebration of artists and makers, we look back on a beloved project with @hendrickschurchill & @brad_ford_id as seen in @archdigest.

Barnegat Barns is a living showcase of our reclaimed and sustainably sourced materials in the context of a historic Pound Ridge barn. Each room, while updated and refined, tells a story of moments passed in the Reclaimed Heart Pine floorboards and Sawn Oak overhead beams.

We hope you'll join us this Thursday — Saturday for a glass of wine and an intimate gathering at Barnegat Barns as we continue to celebrate artisan craft in the Hudson Valley.

We are delighted to highlight the work of Bastienne Schmidt, a German born multi-disciplinary artist based in Bridgehampton, in our current exhibition. “Everything Ahead of Me,” on view thru October 12th, features art and design inspired by the automobile. Bastienne’s untitled work on paper from her car series is an image of hope and possibilities despite its initial conception which emerged when the artist found herself submerged in a suburban environment with young children.

“This series originated when we moved out to the Hamptons over twenty years ago. After having spent many years in New York, I was suddenly becoming, how shall I call it, “a suburban house wife.“ As a late and reluctant driver I became suddenly fascinated by America’s car culture. I took note in my large scale paintings on paper, of the visually appealing cars and car ads
from the fifties and sixties. I added some twists into the narrative of happy families, surrounding these cars. I also inserted elements of irony and questioning of these familiar structures.
I see the visual underpinning in my drawings wrapping themselves like a weaving around the physical shapes of these the cars. I created a Japanese inspired back drop with different
pop culture elements in it: The Super man sitting down in a state of defeat, or the face of a woman in a reflective pose.
The fantasy of the car is the promised freedom in America. You always can hop into a car and drive away.” BS

The work in the first and last images dates to 2014, measures 31 x 46 inches and is available for sale. The other two works from the series are similarly sized and unframed. DM with inquiries.

Every Labor Day for the last five years we de-install our show and we re-set Onna House with pieces from our permanent collection. Even though we’re not open regular hours in the off season we want the house to look perfect for any surprise guests or art and architecture groups who want to visit.

We love the pieces we’ve acquired over the years and it always makes us happy when they return. This Mitsuko Asakura was the first piece we bought for the gallery. We opened Onna House with a whole exhibition of her work which I was introduced to by my friend @fabiennestephan from @salon94. It was a gorgeous show and Mitsuko arrived in full Kimono dress. I love her work so much. Today she is represented by @salon94 and great collectors have these mesmerizingly beautiful textile pieces in their homes.

Thank you again to our community of artists and collectors who help Onna House thrive.
Hope to see you all this fall at Onna House SoHo and stayed tuned for news of an exciting exhibition coming to SoHo mid October.
Grateful and with love
