abstract steel sculpture for art 227s, titled “being together”, made of 27 individual steel boomerangs on the forge that where then welded together to create the tumbleweed like shape. 🪃

this past summer i was able to visit my family in Australia, and met my aunt and cousins for the very first time, at 19 years old. the experience was truly life changing and forever changed me as a person and artist. this semester i chose to create sculptural work exploring my family lore and history, and this piece was the first one of the series. i was inspired by the joy i felt during our time together as a family, and the sadness i felt leaving.

“being together” is made from 27 boomerangs representing the 27 members of my extended family. i wanted to create a form that could be positioned in many different ways, and reference the motion of throwing a boomerang. i miss my family very much, and i feel so lucky to have had the experience of meeting them, and i can’t wait until we can all be together again !!! (included pic of us in last slide ❤️)

photos and sketchbook pages from my family’s trip to hilton head for christmas ❤️

these pictures were taken on an old camera my mom bought me off ebay when i was 10, and i love how they turned out—hoping to incorporate more photography into my art in 2023!
