POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A huge thank you to the wonderful Joe Baur for joining me on a walk through Nicosia and for bringing my beloved city and its stories to life in this beautiful feature for BBC Travel.
It was such an honour to share a little of Nicosia with Joe, its history, its divisions, its humanity, and above all, the people and stories that make this city so much more than a divided capital. To have that spirit reflected in BBC Travel means so much to me. Thank you, @baurjoe for your curiosity, your warmth, and for giving Nicosia’s stories a space to be heard. Why are runners traveling thousands of miles to East Africa?

Many travelers head to Africa to watch cheetahs sprint or lions give chase. But some visitors want to do the running themselves.

Eager to train under the same conditions as East Africa's world-renowned marathoners, runners are racing to countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda for running camps. Coached by locals and challenged by altitude and heat, runners not only have the chance to become better athletes, but they also get to personally experience the traditions and regimens of some of the world's greatest running cultures.

From training in Kenya's "Home of Champions" to community-led experiences in Uganda and Ethiopia, these running stays offer fresh, new ways to experience East Africa; not from a 4x4 Jeep, but on your own feet.

This time last year i was gearing up for the @marathonoman. Its an amazing event and i would highly recommend it. Even if you’re not an Ultra Runner the 100km hike is equally challenging in its own right! Something often overlooked on these adventures is the amazing people you meet and often times remain mates for life! Oman is a beautiful country! Sign up closes soon so give it a look. ODM is often used as a pre race for the MDS.

I can't run for 10 minutes.

My podcast guest has ran 60+ miles a day through multiple countries.

He got pneumonia on day 2 of an 8-day race in Nepal. He still finished.

This week on Type 2 Travel, I'm talking with trail runner and travel writer @baurjoe about:

→ Running with ninjas in Japan (yes, really)
→ Why country counting is BS
→ The Japanese concept of ikigai
→ How to combine YOUR passion with travel
→ The travelers who give us hope

Even if you hate running (like me after this O'Hare pottery incident 👆), you need to hear this one.

New episode is LIVE - link in bio 🎧
.
.
.

Discover Berlin step by step—literally.

Our Berlin running tours take you beyond the guidebook, weaving through the city’s most iconic landmarks and hidden corners.

Sprint beneath the Brandenburg Gate, stride past the glass dome of the Reichstag, and cut through the green heart of Tiergarten. We’ll trace sections of the Berlin Wall, sneak across Checkpoint Charlie, and follow the banks of the Spree, where history and modern Berlin collide.

Whether you’re here for a few days or a longtime Berliner, seeing the city at running pace gives you a whole new perspective. You’ll cover more ground than on foot, yet still have time to take it all in—stories, architecture, and the energy that makes Berlin unlike anywhere else.

Contact us and let’s hit the road! 🏃🏽🏃‍♀️

There are so many different things to see in Berlin. The problem is that it’s a massive city, and it can take a while to get around.

But we’ve got a solution for that!

We’re Joe and Melanie Baur, the co-founders of the @burningriverrunningcompany.

We’re going to offer tours to some of our favorite places we’ve run around the world — from Ireland to Finland — but to kick things off, we’re offering four different tours in Berlin ranging from 5 - 21 kilometers.

It’s the best way to see the likes of Brandenburg Gate, Charlottenburg Palace, and everything in between all in one go.

So reach out to us when you’re in town and let us show you around!

All runners and pacers are welcome.

Now, we want to share these culturally enriching, challenging adventures with YOU!

For starters, we’re offering four tours around Berlin. You can find more info on these at our website.

Or! You can sign up for our mailing list so you’re alerted once we start offering international adventures and retreats. (We're currently working on trips to Ireland and to recreate our Karhunkierros run in Finland!)

Mustang Trail Race (Stage 4-8) and a new life goal🍀: after a rest day in Lo Manthang, I felt revitalized and cured from any sore throat. the 27k Stage 4 let us to a remote valley with Tibetan cave paintings and stunning views, rounded up by a visit of 5-story system of caves. what a view!! Stage 5 sounded easy-only 16k up to the remote village of Yara, a very humble but beautiful village with basic housing! the short stage seemed to be the hardest on me, endless staircases to the sky let me suffer in the heat🥵I was totally worn out afterwards. Since I always felt some nausea and dizzyness, whilst I was securely defending 🥉place, I told Anna, the 2nd fastest women, from now on I will stay behind her not challenging her on the 2nd place-a weird decision for me, only 12 min seperating her from me. I really enjoyed running the last stages with her coupling up👯and helping out each other. after two other beautiful stages, I was finally happy to reach the 8th stage which was short but horribly steep😅It felt like paradise to reach the finish line at Bob Marley cafe🙏🏼🍀😊and there was an explanation for my tiredness and nausea we figured out afterwards🥰🤰🏼#strongertogether #mustangtrailrace

The focus for what I do will hopefully always be on the people who live there, who call the place home.

That’s not my quote, but it could’ve been. It’s something Berlin-based writer and filmmaker @baurjoe said to me on my podcast this week. This approach to storytelling is one of the reasons why we originally struck a chord on a wild trip to Okinawa last year, and why I loved catching up with Joe.
