DOWNWARD ANGLE. PICK. BE READY TO THROW. 🎯

One thing I preach to all my catchers is being able to PICK a fastball down when a runner is stealing second base.

At a high level, there’s no time to block a baseball, recover it, and still expect to throw a runner out at second. ⚡️

That’s why we HAMMER the footwork, glove work, and transfer it takes to pick that baseball and get it from our glove to our throwing hand ready to FIRE.

It’s not just about picking the baseball. It’s about being able to react to the pitch, control your body, and put yourself in the best position to make a throw.🫡

The more situations we prepare for in practice, the less we have to think when they happen in a game.

Adding another tool to the arsenal never hurt anyone! 🔥

⚡️ REACT. DON’T GUESS. ⚡️

A catcher doesn’t get to decide what the breaking ball is going to do.

One stays up — STICK IT.
One finishes down — BLOCK IT.
One gets away — RECOVER & THROW.

The only way to get better at making that decision is to WORK IT until reacting becomes automatic. 🎯

⚡️ READ IT — Let the baseball tell you what move to make.
⚡️ TRUST IT — Don’t commit early. See it, process it, then go.
⚡️ FINISH IT — Stick the strike. Keep the dirt ball in front. And when it gets away, recover fast and make the throw.

We don’t want catchers thinking, “I’m blocking this one” before the pitch is ever there.

Train your eyes. Trust your instincts. Let the ball dictate the move.

WORK IT SO IT’S NEVER A GUESS. 🔋⚾️

⚡️ POP TIME. POP TIME. POP TIME. ⚡️

Probably the #1 question I get from catchers and parents:

“How do I get my pop time down?”

Yes, it matters. But quick doesn’t mean rushed. The best catch & throw guys let the baseball come to them, move around it, stay grounded, and explode toward second. 🫡

⚡️ LET IT TRAVEL - Don’t go get the baseball.

⚡️ MOVE AROUND IT - Stay grounded and create direction toward second.

⚡️ BE ACCURATE - The time doesn’t matter if the throw isn’t on the bag.

To put it in perspective at Purdue, we wanted our pitchers 1.2 or better to the plate. Against a top runner, that gives the catcher roughly a 2.1 window to get the baseball to second.

So yes, every tenth matters. But a 1.90 off the bag doesn’t help you. Give me a 1.95-2.05 on the bag that gives us a chance to get an out. 🎯

That’s what these guys are honing in on.

Every catcher in this video is a dude at his school - then they come in here once a week, compete together, and keep working to clean up their craft. Proud of the work these guys put in every week ‼️

FAST. QUICK. EFFICIENT. ACCURATE. ⚡️🔋

⚡️ BAYLOR BROWN | EDMOND NORTH ’29 | SWITCH-HITTING CATCHER ⚡️

Continuing to build the engine of the swing from both sides of the plate. 🔋

The focus lately has been getting Baylor into a position where he can use the twitch he already has instead of trying to create it.

⚡️ HANDS FIRST — Get them started and give the barrel room to fly.

⚡️ CREATE THE LAUNCH — Get into a strong position at foot down and be ready to fire.

⚡️ TRUST THE TWITCH — Foot gets down, turn it loose.

The better the move gets, the more the barrel starts speaking for itself. Recently touched 93 EV from both sides, but we’re still building. 📈

🔊 SOUND UP for the mixed BP round. This one was LOUD.

Switch-Hitting Catcher💥

One of the biggest focuses with Baylor has been creating controlled violence from both sides of the plate. The goal is simple: let the body and hands work together to create true backspin instead of trying to muscle the barrel through the zone.

Letting the whip of the barrel create the quick pop, not forcing it with extra effort. When everything works together, the swing stays fast, efficient, and repeatable.

The other priority has been making both swings mirror each other. Instead of having two completely different moves, he's building one athletic swing that translates from both the left and right side.

Excited to see Baylor keep building heading into his sophomore season at Edmond North. The future is bright.🔋⚾️

🤧A nasty threat. Baylor Brown (@baylorbrown0) is a switch-hitting C/3B, and showed he can swing it well from both sides at the plate at the #MuncyWS. Collected multiple barrels on the weekend as well as a bases clearing double on Opening Day. • @usnatssouthplains 2029 #DudeAlert #baseball
