Pain as a Portal

Expressive Arts Therapy Women’s Group with Aisha Radwan
Featuring a screening of “I Told You So” by Malak AlSayyad

An intimate space for women living with endometriosis and gynecological conditions.

Together, we gently welcome pain as a messenger, through body awareness, a screening of “I Told You So” (2024), and a collective expressive arts experience.

✨ Here, pain becomes a portal, into deeper connection, meaning, and self-compassion.

We close with a space for reflection and shared presence with both Aisha and Malak.

The roots are calling… now more than ever.

We are preparing to gather once again for the Annual Expressive Arts Egypt Festival, a space where creativity, community, and transformation meet.

The roots are calling us to remember the wisdom we all carry within, to gather in community, and to open spaces where healing, expression, and human connection can unfold.

In times when the world can feel uncertain, the arts invite us back to our bodies, our imagination, and to one another. They become a gateway through which we can empower our voices, express our truths, and evolve together.

This year’s festival carries the spirit of honouring the roots while blossoming into the future. Together we will celebrate the wisdom of the pioneers who shaped the field of expressive arts therapy, while opening pathways for new voices, new practices, and new possibilities to emerge.

Our festival will unfold as a 6-day immersive journey:

✨ Online Gathering
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: September 18, 19, 20

✨ In-Person Celebration
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: October 9, 10, 11

Across these days, we will be joined by inspiring leaders, therapists, artists, and educators from around the world, sharing their wisdom, practices, and creative pathways for healing and transformation.

Whether you are a practitioner, student, artist, educator, or simply someone drawn to the transformative power of creativity, this gathering is an invitation to be part of a growing global community.

🌿 Stay tuned for more details about our speakers, workshops, and the beautiful experiences that await.

The roots are calling.
Let us gather.
Let us create.
Let us heal, empower, and evolve, together.

Moments from past years of the festival, both online and in person, bringing together over a hundred participants from more than 40 countries around the world.

Weaving the threads of what is essential through the embodied act of weaving.

Within our 300-hour Expressive Arts Therapy training program, an educational journey I began leading several years ago with Markus Scott-Alexander, and that has now graduated more than 40 practitioners from Egypt and around the world.

In this class, I led the group to explore the power of weaving as both a creative and therapeutic practice.

Thread by thread, the loom becomes a space of presence.

The rhythmic over and under invites the body into a gentle flow where the mind quiets and the nervous system begins to soften and settle. These repetitive movements activate the parasympathetic nervous system, supporting relaxation, grounding, and a deeper connection to the present moment.

In therapy, weaving offers more than craft, it becomes metaphor.
Separate strands slowly interlace, reminding us how fragmented experiences, emotions, and memories can gradually be woven back into coherence. The loom holds both structure and possibility: the warp threads create a container, while the weft allows expression, improvisation, and story.

The tactile textures, colors, and patterns engage the senses while inviting patience, focus, and curiosity. With every line created, there is a visible sign of progress, an embodied reminder that transformation often unfolds slowly, rhythmically, and with care.

In this class, weaving became a way of learning through the body.
Hands moving, threads crossing, stories emerging.

Through the arts, the hands begin to think, the body remembers, and meaning gently takes form.

A Creative Journey Unfolded!

McDougall Faculty of Business students recently had the opportunity to dive into Expressive Arts Therapy with Aisha Radwan, expressive arts therapist, psychotherapist, and educator. Through art, movement, sound, and imagination, students experienced creativity as something felt and lived, exploring intermodality, symbolism, and the power of process over perfection.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and embraced curiosity, reflection, and creative connection.

From our 3rd Cohort -Expressive Arts Therapy 300 hours training program

Our class today on Rootedness, Groundedness, and Clarity in times of Chaos

Markus emphasized the power of rootedness, groundedness, and clarity in healing, urging us to listen inwardly rather than follow external expectations.

He spoke to the value of embracing one's authentic path, sharing his journey of navigating multiple creative identities without conforming.

Together we explored empathy in therapy, highlighting the role of expressive arts and the balance of feeling deeply while staying centered.

Our collectove poem from class

I can evolve
I can go deep and find the details
I can navigate through the maze

I can step in and step out
I can have a playful structure

I can be introspective
I can be in the infinite of change
as a constant
safely, in breath’s love

I can see the truth
I can see the center

I can fit in

I can see through order first
so love can arrive

I can see from many different perspectives
and make the image complete

I can see different perspectives

I can adapt
I can be myself
