Perception is more dangerous than reality."

I've come to appreciate how true this can be.

At one point in my own journey, certain perceptions influenced decisions that, in hindsight, carried unnecessary costs. Sometimes, it isn't reality holding us back—it's how we interpret it.

That's one of the reasons behind the iQed Basketball & Career Program.

We use basketball as an entry point to help young people develop not only their athletic ability, but also stronger thinking, decision-making, confidence, leadership, and career awareness.

We want participants to understand that success is bigger than making the professional leagues. And if they do reach that level, they should also be prepared for life beyond the game, because careers can change through injury, personal choice, or new opportunities.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to build a mindset that sees possibilities, prepares wisely, and creates value wherever life takes them.

The video below resonated with me because it reminds us how changing the way we think can change the way we live.

What perception have you changed that positively transformed your life? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

One of the most valuable lessons we've learned through our youth impact journey—across both the classroom and the basketball court—is this:

When young people help complete the learning experience, they often become our teachers.

Not because they know everything, but because they help us better understand their world, how they think, what influences them, and what truly matters to them.

At iQed Basketball & Career Program, we've found that some of the deepest behavioural insights come when we intentionally listen more, speak less, and create room for young people to contribute their ideas.

We don't just hear their opinions—we value them, test-drive them, and learn from them. Doing so often reveals opportunities, perspectives, and solutions that traditional top-down teaching alone may never uncover.

When we join their conversations instead of only directing them, we place ourselves in a better position to guide, mentor, and positively influence them.

This learner-centred philosophy—one that resonates with ideas championed by leaders such as Maxine Clark—continues to shape how we approach both the classroom and the basketball court.

Ultimately, this isn't just about producing better students or better athletes. It's about helping develop responsible, confident young people and contributing to the better, safer society we all want to see.

Sometimes, the best way to guide and positively influence young people is to first listen to them, value and test-drive their opinions, and then help them grow.

What has been your experience? Have you found that listening first often produces better learning, coaching, or leadership outcomes than simply giving instructions?

VORTEX BASKETBALL CLUB™️

A Team defined by energy, disruption, and uncontrollable momentum shifts. When they lock in, the game feels like it’s being pulled into a storm that speeds up until nothing feels stable anymore. They distort rhythm, break structure, and drag opponents into their tempo🔥🔥

“If you get caught in the Vortex, you don’t play your game anymore.”

I present to you, VORTEX BASKETBALL CLUB

The original “Mercedes Lion” ad* — where a lion bows or reacts to a Mercedes car — 'was a creative concept from around 2016–2018, made for the African or Middle East markets. It wasn’t an official global Mercedes-Benz campaign but rather (likely) a regional or speculative commercial' says a report.

Some say student or agency pitch work that went viral for its symbolism: the “King of the Jungle bows to the King of the Road.”

🚗 What’s happening now (2025): Mercedes-Benz did not officially “redo” the advert. What’s going around are reposts, AI remasters, and edits (some in 4K or with new music and effects) being circulated on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Many creators tag it as “2025 version” or “Mercedes Lion 2025 Ad but those are not official Mercedes productions.

💡 Why the buzz: The clip aligns with Mercedes’ current 2025 branding theme around “Dominance meets elegance” and “Nature x Power”, so fans and AI editors are reviving it with updated captions and visuals that make it look new. Some AI pages even use Mercedes’ current EQ or Maybach logos in re-edits.

I couldn't but join in the fun and create something for sport.

Could only do for prints. Hopefully with some support will do the video aspect.
