What if Canadians rallied behind their amateur athletes the same way they came together to rally behind the @bluejays and their incredible World Series run? If this was a job ad, no one would apply. 15 years from airing this (created probono by @bbdocanada ) nothing has changed. @cbc.sports recent headlines showcased the devastating funding crisis in Canadian sport and the recent federal budget announced no new funding. @canfund has been the one organization answering the call for more than 20 years, raising more than 40 million for athletes. More than 700 Canadian athletes competing at an international level applied to the last round of funding including those gearing up to compete in less than 100 days at the Winter Olympics. Most of whom who have net 0 or negative incomes annually. 5.6 Million. That’s what it would take for Canadians to give every one of those athletes $8,000 of support. 27 million people tuned into the last Olympics to cheer on our athletes. 115,000 people donating $50 would fund every amateur athlete on the list.
