As we close out another incredible week at Buckeye Boys State, we are filled with pride, hope, and deep gratitude. Over the past week, we witnessed young leaders step into roles as mayors, legislators, judges, and citizens — each one learning the power of civic responsibility, service, and working across differences.

While the colors are retired, the Buckeye Boys State flag remains on stage and salutes you, the delegates of the 88th Session of the American Legion Buckeye Boys State, as you depart from Miami University.

To the delegates: Your energy, curiosity, and courage to lead gives us faith in the future of our country. You came together from all across Ohio, united by a desire to serve something greater than yourselves. Your example reminds us that leadership grounded in integrity and purpose will always matter.

To the Legionnaires, staff, and counselors who made this week possible: Thank you for showing up, sharing your wisdom, and investing into the next generation of public servants.

Help us spread the word for the 2027 program by speaking to your underclassmen and by having them follow us here and on Twitter and Instagram @OhioBBS.

To the future BBS class of 2027, we will see you in 356 days on June 13, 2027 for the 89th Session. But who’s counting?

For the last time: Gentlemen, this assembly is adjourned. We truly hope that this has been #AWeekToShapeALifetime.

It's not every day that you get to meet the Governor of Ohio, but at Buckeye Boys State, it does seem to happen every year! Thank you to @govmikedewine for taking the time to speak with delegates today, and for meeting with members of Governor Jensvold's cabinet and for press gaggling with the @bbshetuck correspondents. For his dedication and support for BBS, we were proud to induct Governor DeWine into the BBS Hall of Fame, and sincerely hope he applies to join our staff next year.

On March 6, Captain Curtis Angst was one of six joint USAF–Air National Guard flight crew members who gave their lives in service to our country during “Operation Epic Fury,” answering the call of duty with unwavering courage.

Captain Angst attended the American Legion Buckeye Boys State program in 2013 and exemplified the values our program strives to instill—leadership, integrity, and service above self.

The American Legion Buckeye Boys State staff and ALBBS class of 2013 are profoundly grateful for having known Curtis Angst and for the steadfast commitment he demonstrated in the service of others. His legacy stands as a powerful reminder of the character and courage embodied by those who choose to serve. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who loved him.

Captain Curtis Angst, along with other Buckeye Boys State alumni who have made the supreme sacrifice for our nation, will be honored during the annual Memorial Service at the 2026 program this summer.

Today, we proudly recognize all who have served our nation, especially the Legionnaires who continue their mission of service long after their time in uniform.

Through programs like Buckeye Boys State, these dedicated veterans help guide and inspire the next generation of leaders. Their example reminds us that leadership and service don’t end when military duty does; they live on in our communities, schools, and youth programs every day.

To all veterans: thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your continued commitment to building a better future. 🇺🇸

🌰Buckeye Boys State 2025🌰

“A week to change a lifetime.”

This past week I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 2025 Buckeye Boys State program. It was hands down one of the best experiences in my life. Not only did I learn about how the Ohio State government operates, but I also pushed myself out of my comfort zone to meet new people and to have fun.

I highly recommend anyone in the class of 2027 to sign up to attend Buckeye Boys State next summer!

Gentlemen. A word I’ve heard more this week then I will in a life time. Buckeye boys state, what a great week. Jack may have my back but Governor Dajeun had pipes. I was a corrupt cop. 4 tickets in 90 minutes. What a great time. To the 47 delegates in my city thank you. From reading Dr Seuss for bed time stories, playing limbo, councilors making sure we’re in bed, plotting against councilors, from jojo not liking the name jojo and winning not 1 but two city flags and 2 county flags. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. It truly was week to shape a lifetime. There was 🤘 unity in the community🤘. Who are we? We are Zulch! Who are we? The marauders. We are Zulch we won it all. The other cities had to fall. For the last time Gentlemen this assembly is adjourned.
