I cannot believe that it’s been one year since I put music into my USB and went to the @roundhouseldn to start practising 🥹. I started DJing because I felt very stuck creatively and I needed a release and it’s become exactly that!

I’ve always loved music. I started curating my vinyl collection when I was 18, I was a regular concert goer and I used to review albums and interview musicians when I was writing for More Branches. But, when I started listening to DJ sets on YouTube, it was like something kind of clicked within me. The feeling of hearing a crazy transition or your favourite “niche” song come on is unbeatable and, after watching my friends do it, I thought it would be cool to try and do it too!

I don’t think I would’ve believed you if you told me a year ago that I would’ve done over 40 sets in 3 different countries AND CONTINENTS?!?! Been noticed by Doechi, Steve Lacy, Mark Ronson and gotten to play alongside and connect with my favourite DJ’s and producers. Like I still can’t wrap my head around it all but I feel soooo grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and how I’ve been so well received by you all 🥹💕💕.

This time last year, I hadn’t posted on this account in at least a year and there was about 200 of my friends I’d gathered through my writing and photography. Now there’s almost 1000 of us (900 at the time of writing this) and it’s so beautiful to see how music can bring people together and I love being a vessel for that experience.

I want to thank my family and friends for always liking and reposting my videos, commenting my name to help me win competitions and giving me the motivation I needed to keep going.

I wanted this photoshoot to represent all the stages of me getting to this point. My mum’s CD’s that she’s had around the house since I was little, my Vinyls and little FLX4 are all the building blocks for the sound and style of DJing you guys hear today.

I love DJing sooooo much and I genuinely can’t wait to see how I evolve in the years to come!

woot woot! degree finally secured 🎓🍾

Last month, I graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in African & African Diaspora Studies, Political Science, and a minor in Film Studies. This has been a tumultuous journey and a long four years coming, and I have been blessed with the most wonderful memories and lessons thanks to the amazing people and opportunities I’ve encountered. This has been a year of Ws: I returned from studying abroad at Sciences Po Reims in France, won Showdown with the fantastic @fistsladies in front of a sold out crowd, hosted a @bc_haiti ZoeFest for the books, modeled for the first @kapturedby_kaylee gallery of many, wrote a senior thesis, all while graduating cum laude on a full merit scholarship. And finally, the Boston Celtics won the NBA Championship. There’s really not much more I could ask for. All thanks to God, my family, my mentors, and my dearest friends.

Those that know me well know that there’s no better way to reflect on my BC experience than through @insecurehbo references. That show has consistently gotten me through each season of life since its release, and I pray to make even a dent of that impact on people and the culture during my post-grad era. “It Would Just Be Great To Show The Kids That There’s Beauty In Their Own Backyard,” and @srishotit is only the very beginning.

Onto the next chapter, there’s much more celebratory @viaraewines prosecco to be popped in this lifetime. Cheers to that. 🥂

📸: @kapturedby_kaylee as per usual! Thank you sister for executing my vision so beautifully!
