How the Annapurna Circuit Won My Heart

When I first planned a trek in Nepal, everyone said the same thing: “Go to Everest Base Camp.” It felt like the default choice, the one everyone checks off their bucket list. But something in me wanted a different kind of adventure, something quieter, older, and more connected to the real rhythm of the mountains.
That’s how I ended up on the Annapurna Circuit, (well before I eventually decided to do both 😆).
From the first day, the trail felt like a conversation — a slow, steady one between me and the Himalayas. The villages were simple, the people kind in that effortless Nepali way, one moment I was walking through warm, green valleys; the next, I was surrounded by cliffs, glaciers, and that crisp, thin air that makes every breath feel earned.
I remember the small things the most: the old wooden bridges, the sound of mule bells and the smell of momos steaming in tiny teahouses. I remember the evenings when trekkers from all over the world gathered around heaters and sharing tea.
And then there was Thorong La Pass. I won’t pretend it was easy, my legs shook, my lungs argued with me, and at one point I questioned every decision that led me there. But reaching the top felt like touching a piece of myself I didn’t know existed. The flags fluttering in the wind, the sharp cold, the feeling of standing above the world, it was overwhelming in the best way.
While EBC may have the fame, the Annapurna Circuit has something different: soul and history ❤️🇳🇵
The Annapurna Circuit didn’t just win my heart.
It reminded me how alive I feel when I step into the unknown and let the world surprise me.
