I was supposed to start uploading thesis progress (originally on my main account @bce.creates) at the beginning of the semester. Turns out, I didn’t do that. At all. One of the reasons for that was that I was not passionate about my thesis. I originally chose to focus on boosting a design/agency portfolio in order to get a head-start for post-graduation. However, as I started going through the motions, I realized I wasn’t drawing things I wanted to draw. I wasn’t having fun. So, with the semester half over, I’ve now changed my thesis topic…to a series of self-portraits inspired by art history. Today, I started working on my initial inspiration, a piece that has always stuck with me - Self-Portrait by Albrecht Dürer, 1500. This work speaks to me in how Dürer paints himself as Christ - not because he believes he is Christlike, but because he carries a focus on elevating the career and the person of an artist.
