A short but important topic. What goes up must come down. How to land safely, from the perspective of ATC.

Any altitude restriction was likely for separation. Do not break a restriction until we clear you for lower. Doing so without clearance could put you and others in danger. If you feel you are too high, request lower with ATC.

Only two suitable answers when responding to traffic info. We can accept anything that clearly indicates you have traffic in sight (ie “in sight” or “contact”), or that you are “looking”.

Refrain from saying things like “traffic not in sight” or “negative contact”. Unnecessary words may be garbled on the frequency and your transmission may be misunderstood.

This is becoming a safety problem.

A special request when inbound (ie 1 circuit) requires approval. Just because it’s been requested doesn’t mean it is approved. We will clearly state approvals.

We will never use “cleared to land” as a substitute for “cleared for touch and go” or anything else. Simply put, if you are cleared to land, it is a full-stop landing.

For safety and when safe, you must complete your assigned clearance. If it is not what you expected or wanted, feel free to double-check with us.

Lately, some pilots have been “requesting permission to exit the runway.” You do not need our permission to exit.

TC AIM gives clear guidance on exiting: you are expected to land and take the first suitable exit without delay. Your planned touchdown point should always be for the first suitable exit. Do not miss an exit because you want a short, convenient taxi.

But if you missed it, you missed it. Honour system at play here.

Do NOT backtrack or stop on runway without authorization. Runways are a one way street ⛔️

Keep your speed up to quickly get off at the next exit. Don’t dilly-dally.

⚠️ If you were previously instructed to hold short with your landing clearance, you must still abide by that restriction.
