Next up for anniversaries is the 5 year mark for Alexandria (Alex) Sarenski!

Alex is an outstanding plastic surgery PA, not to mention the brightest spot in every room and a stranger to none. After graduating from UT, she attended PA school at Baylor College of Medicine, finishing in the end of 2020 when the world was still in relative turmoil due to the pandemic. She decided to stay at Baylor for her career, joining the Division of Plastic Surgery. She treats patients independently and collaboratively in the clinic, performs minor procedures in the clinic, and assists on cases in the OR at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. She was able to marry her love of art with her love of medicine in the space of nipple tattoos after breast surgery, which she has been performing for years now. In addition to this extremely high volume clinical work, she served as Chair of the APP Council from 2023-2025.

In the words of plastic surgeon Dr. Sebastian Winocour “Alex has been an invaluable asset to my practice and an irreplaceable APP is our division. Patients routinely express their gratitude for her care and she consistently ranks in the top Press Ganey scores in the college. I cannot thank her enough for all her hard work and compassionate care she has provided over the last five years.”

Congratulations on this milestone, Alex! ✨5️⃣✨

Congratulations are in order for PA Maddie Huster who has been promoted to Assistant Professor of surgery!

A BCM PA graduate, Maddie provides clinical care in the Division of Surgical Oncology. Her clinical expertise is wide-reaching, including colorectal, hepaticopancreaticobiliary, as well as skin and soft tissue malignancies. She was awarded an APP QI seed grant with which she created a high quality perioperative video to guide patients in their surgical journey, presenting her findings at Surgery Grand Rounds. She has lectured the pre-PA program at her Alma mater Wake Forest University, where she was also a midfielder, four year letter winner and two year team captain for the Women’s Soccer team.

Recently, she has been a leader in establishing APP-run Survivorship Clinics at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, increasing patient access for the Division of Surgical Oncology.

Congratulations, Maddie!

The recipients of the 2025 O. H. “Bud” Frazier Innovation and Leadership awards were announced and honored last week at Grand Rounds, and PA Kathryn “Kat” Huff was among them 🎉

Kat provides patient care as a surgical critical care provider, and last year she stepped into the role of Lead APP for the surgical critical care group at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. She hit the ground running with a revitalization of the surgical critical care APP on boarding program, which was critically important and timely. This group welcomed six new providers in 2025 and has more incoming in 2026, increasing staffing at the established ICUs and also staffing the new McNair ICU. Kat’s leadership had been instrumental in a strong and fresh start for this group of APPs!

She is pictured here receiving her award in the category of “Professional Development” and also with her Section Chief Dr. Ryan Dumas, who was also honored with an award.
