Through the eyes of Hannah Bennett (@_fiji_girl_), we’re transported back in time to Rotuma, Fiji—her remote home island shaped by ancient polynesian culture, and a deep connection to the ocean, land, and tradition. As the modern world pushes closer, Hannah returns home to reconnect with what came before and ask what must be protected indigenous culture moving forward.
Rotuma and its people teach us that some of the answers to our future may already exist in the knowledge of those who came before us.

On the evening of my 40th birthday, tucked within the lush, forested hills of Costa Rica, somewhere between the four course meal and Big Lebowski viewing, I laughed until I cried in a puddle of friends, barely containing my gratitude from bursting into a super nova. The people in our lives, and the shared memories we create on wacky adventures, harrowing challenges and everything in between, are the truest form of wealth, and I couldn’t be happier to enter a new decade with all of that currency. ❤️

Do you remember this pier? A throwback to a spot I used to love shooting the stars. I always called this the 59th Street Pier, but I remember seeing other people call it the 57th Street Pier. Whichever you knew it by, this old pier was one of the first places I kept coming back to in New Jersey when I started taking photos of the night sky.

I'd come back during the day to take 5-10 minutes exposures and then again at night learn about taking photos after the sun was fully set. This spot was responsible for some of my earliest published photos, police encounters which also lead to being quoted on websites about aliens, and some great night sky hang outs.

Over the years, storms would break down the remainder of the pier until there were just a few pilings left. I'm not sure when they final ones were removed, but nothing remains of the original pier.

I love film. I love how powerful it can be, to ignite change, shift perspectives, open your heart up just a little (or in the case of my emotional parking lot breakdown after watching @wondercamp’s The Life We Have at @5pointfilm a couple weeks ago, a whole lot). One of my intentions with every film I make is to leave the viewer with some sort of gift. Where it be laughter or tears, a reminder of what’s truly important, or the sense of feeling a little less along in this ocean of humanity…my job feels like it’s to help bring out the meaning of it all. Even just the smallest amount. And films that leave me with a gift like that….I carry those gifts with me. They’re changed me, in ways I see and ways that shift under the surface. Good films stay with you.

Tonight the @gorgeimpactfilmfestival and the @whitesalmonartscouncil are having a free event at the Society in Bingen. It’s a couple hours of short films, some old, some new. All ones I personally love and find leave a gift behind. Some of them are things I’ve worked on, or friends have (all tagged in the photo!) and I’m truly excited to share these with families and friends here in the Gorge. It’s been a wild ride on the planet this year, and putting my heart into community and the good in the world has helped ease the stress of it all.

I’m passionate and excited about a lot of things, and this is one of the big ones for me. Hope you can join!
