What could a 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 look like—and how do we get there? 🌊💙

At the 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭, @oceansatduke brought together global leaders, innovators, Duke experts, partners, and students to explore this question as part of Oceans Week at Duke.

The summit agenda included a moving keynote address from Dynamic Planet Founder & CEO Kristin Rechberger, B.A. ‘95, thought‑provoking panels on translating discovery into design and innovation into impact, a student Q&A, and more. Discussions focused on 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬, building climate and coastal resilience, and turning research into solutions that benefit both the ocean and communities.

👏 Huge thanks to our incredible 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐬 for making this a truly inspiring day. And a special shoutout to the 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 who helped organize, support, and drive the energy of the Summit—you are the future of this work.

The Blue Economy Summit isn’t the end of the conversation—it’s a jumping-off point, as Duke’s interdisciplinary oceans community continues to collaborate at the intersection of science, innovation, and impact.

Onward. 🌎 🌊

Special thanks to @makingearthcool for the sweet photobooth and mask making station, and to the over 50 volunteers and 3 dozen silent auction donors! Our celebration wouldn't have been possible without your time and support.
