🪐 As the Earth continues its elliptical journey and winter fades across the hemisphere with the spring equinox, happy to finally share the third edition of the Krystall Mass - my special winter show at @cashmere_radio.

Enjoy a slow drift into a procession of angelic voices and dreamlike moments, slowly transforming into something crystalline, suspended between body and spirit.

The show takes on a special resonance through a newly released and totally hypnotizing track by a dear friend @insomnia_taxxi called “Fantasya”, based on a poem by the Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka, written in 1891.

The cover photo features a beautiful poem by my dear friend @taras_gembik, taken from his debut poetry collection “The Infinite Now”.

GEIOM a.k.a. Hem, (born Kamal Joory) is a Nottingham based producer, live electronic musician and DJ working across tempos, styles, conventions and record labels. As a lynchpin of the East Midland’s scene his Berkane Sol label has provided an outlet for some smashing new music!

THE SILVER FIELD is the sound world of Coral Rose Kindred-Boothby. Voice, tapes, bass, samples, synthesis, strings, reeds, drums, small sounds, big sounds, sunlight, moonlight, a lot of water. Using her modular synthesiser and other self-built electronic instruments, she weaves together song-soundscapes, creating a rich and dream-like tapestry of sound.

CHIMAERA is Nottingham’s shape-shifting DJ playing eclectic mixes from entrancing global electronic sounds, hard and fast breaks to slow and romantic afro-funk. chimaera is the co-organiser of @Trancesexuals and hosts Wyrd Wide Web radioshow over on Swing Dash.

RAVI ABBOTT (DJ FORMULA) will be live Mixing 8bit Audio in 4 channels using a music format from the 90s called Modules. Using two Commodore Amiga machines from 1993, no syncing, no modern techniques, just floppy disks and files smaller than a word document.

KRISSY K is a local DJ and producer mixing contemporary sounds with classics from the past two decades who hosts K-Wave, a monthly live show at Swing Dash in Nottingham.

GULPXL are a performance duo brought to you by Pádraig Condron and Charlie Dean. We are best friends who work together because we feel okay exploiting each other without it being weird. Our work is often messy, caring, wet, desperate and not to be trusted.

Thanks to everyone who joined us in Sheerness for 'Good Tidings' recently!

Created by artists Simone Kenyon (@kenyon.projects), Rebecca Lee (@beakerthon), and Bethany Wells with the people of Sheppey, 'Good Tidings' marked the passing of time and tide, and cast off good tidings for the island.

The culmination of 8 months of collaboration with local people, community groups, and institutions, this all-day event was the public enactment of a new ritual for Sheerness.

It featured the Rope Walk, a procession from the town centre to the beach; the Tidal Dial, a buoyant net, tethered between land and sea, and vessel for the contributions and intentions gathered from the folk of Sheppey; and a new collaboratively written song.

At the end of the day, the Tidal Dial was cast off onto the water carrying everyone's collective contributions onto the rising sea.

~~~~~~~~~~
Commissioned by Cement Fields, the project has been funded by @historicengland's Everyday Heritage grant programme, The National Lottery Community Fund, Arts Council England, and Kent County Council. With additional generous support from @sheppey.matters.
Preparations are underway on Sheppey for ‘Good Tidings’ this weekend! Over the past six months artists Simone Kenyon (@kenyon.projects), Rebecca Lee (@beakerthon) and Bethany Wells have been working with the people of Sheerness to create a new ceremonial ritual for Sheppey.
‘Good Tidings’ will commence on Saturday at midday at The Clock Tower with a song and a procession as part of Sheerness Seaside Festival. We’re still looking for volunteers to help carry our 40 foot Tidal Dial shipping rope (much bigger than the one pictured!) from here along the sea wall to Ship-on-Shore Beach. It’s also not too late to join the musical accompaniment and help perform a new community-written song, so if you’re interested in joining this new ritual, get in touch or simply show up on the day. All abilities welcome - we need all hands on deck!
Once at the beach, a buoyant net, tethered between land and sea, will weave together voices, stories and history from the folk of Sheppey and be cast off every hour from high tide at 13:32 to low tide at 19:32. Join us here for activities all afternoon - netting and knotting techniques, more music, and to contribute your ‘Good Tidings’ for Sheppey to this collective ritual.
→ Saturday 9 August
→ Meet at Sheerness Clock Tower at midday for the Rope Walk and performance
→ Then find us at the beach cove by Ship-on-Shore from 13.32-19:32
→ Free, all ages and abilities welcome
→ Email elizabeth@cementfields.org to get involved
See you there! 👣
INTERWORLD presents... BREDBEDDLE
Bredbeddle is Rebecca Lee, an artist, composer and musician based in Nottingham, UK. Across two albums as Bredbeddle, ‘Steps on the Turning Year’ (Bezirk, 2021) and ‘Stackes’ (Fractal Meat Cuts, 2017) her work merges composition and collage. Fragments from her record collection, found sounds and diaristic recordings become parts of a score, building blocks to be written onto a timeline to create something new. While perhaps reminiscent of plunderphonics aesthetically, there is a musicality and narrative coherence to her songs that is distinct from an aleatoric or poetic montaging of sounds.
Strands of harmony and melody, of similarity and juxtaposition, are pulled from unexpected places. Held up for contemplation and then strung together into intricate pieces. Often manifesting as long-form, durational compositions, Bredbeddle’s process is rooted in seeing archives as a launching off point. Recorded material as a site of potential rather than an end point frozen in time and context.
“…a skewed prism, giving interesting and often poignant new perspectives on recognizable sounds, breathing a new essence into the familiar,” - Brad Rose, Foxy Digitalis
⚠️ Only FOUR SLEEPS to go until we bring @niknakdjmusic , @beakerthon and @flight_coda to @cads_sheff – this is set to be an extra-special night, so get your tickets now (Skiddle or RA, link in bio) and join us in twiddling the corporeal hardware of "synths" and "media" to glimpse under the veil into the ethereal soul-planes within us all 🌌
We're waiting for you 💞
