✨NEW RELEASE✨ Dialogo by @beamtype and @spizh. Based on the writing of Giovanni Francesco Cresci, this script typeface is an interpretation of the italic genre, reimagining it as an independent display script face. The initial release includes six weights. More styles are on the way along with a variable font, and broader character set including Cyrillic.

The typeface Dialogo is first @felixbamforth and @spizh collaboration, it was important for us to reflect that in the name.

So Dialogo it is.

Most of the time, the process was fun, but sometimes it was challenging. We reached dead ends, took breaks, and came back to our conversation. New ideas emerge through thoughtful dialogue, and dialogue opens up new possibilities. It is also something the modern world seems to be missing.

How do you come up with names for your typefaces? Do you spend ages searching for the perfect name, or do you just go with the first one that feels right?

This story begins 447 years ago, when Italian calligrapher Francesco Cresci published his “Il perfetto cancellaresco corsivo”

Almost 450 years later, Felix owner of @beamtype called @spizh and said: “Spizh, look at these blobs. We need to do something with them.”

But Spizh wasn’t naive enough to believe freshly graduated TypeMedia, as Felix was. These fools want to make fonts from everything.

Yet, Zhenya was also a fresh TypeMedia graduate, so he went to the library to see the sources with his own eyes, to touch them, to sniff them.

And bless God, Pietro Cresci, the blobs were there. And they were gorgeous, just as Felix told Zhenya.

And there were alphabets cut in wood with lots of swashes and alternates.

There was everything...

In good quality...

There was everything. And there was no shortage of it.

And Zhenya came back to Felix. They rolled up their sleeves and set to their craft. Sketch after sketch, conversation after conversation. A dialogue that has continued for the past year and a half.

Countless things were studied and rethought. There is simply no way to fit all the documentation and materials into a single carousel.

The release of a new typeface is one month away. But first, let us show you what went into a year and a half of work.

For the last 18 months, @felixbamforth ( @beamtype ) and I, Spizh, have been working on this typeface. It’s our first project together, and a lot of work went into it. Lots of sketches, research, and learning how to work as a team. Over the next month, we’ll share as much of the process as we can.

Errors, glitches and happy accidents 🤖 this is always the most interesting part in a project like BM Glue, where accidents give rise to new, unexpected routes and styles. What is special about BM Glue is that all lowercase letters attach, as well as uppercase to lowercase, with the aim to look like our everyday handwriting. A weight, gradient and slant axis give the typeface even more breadth in appearance #typedesign #beamtype #bmglue #lettering #typography

Bless beyond the screen ⚡️⚡️💥

It’s been a while since I’ve been wanting to learn a new craft. This is my first attempt at ceramics.
I swear I thought I would make a bowl as my first piece, but as always, making my life complicated is my passion 🤡
