Comix Accountability Club - 2026 Comix Retreat

(Cutting this reel brought me to tears???)

I didn't know what to expect from this adventure into Appalachia. On the Eastern edge of West Virginia, me and over a dozen comix artists from all over huddled in Shepherd University for 5 days to get away and concentrate on our sequentials. For my own work, I kept the bar low. If I could somehow find the confidence and motivation to work on my "longer" comics narrative, that would be enough for me. While I feel I didn't do much, I think I met that standard I set for myself.

What wasn't something I could expect was discovering how wonderful all these @comix.club members are:

@shan.zine
@junimadii
@houseoflief
@leestrawberryofficial
@gavin.flavor
@mochiwei
@beaniebrows
@featherdragonart
@gillsthefish0808
@drawphildraw
@kylekerezsi
@ollie_oop_arts
@chimpanxanax

I didn't know many of them very well or at all, but building community like this is always worth it. There was so much joy and adventure. I hope to see them again soon.

If it wasn't a reminder that I *can* do the things I do, it was definitely one that I should get out of town more. I owe it to Shannon and the crew for revitalizing me.

Special Shout-out to @dcorsetto for being a generous and kind pal!

In the incredulous situation of running out of tags I cannot believe this happened LMAO but I think this defines this year doesn’t it? While usually I make a sappy post on my finsta this year required more public fanfare. Somehow this year I got an astronomical amount done (5 entire completed zines + 3 zine fests + costumes + a move + 20 gigs etc etc), made some of the most amazing connections of my life, moved closer to my beloveds and overall I’m sliding into 2026 with more gratitude than I know how to properly capture.

Thank you to my community for all the adventures, for being my everything, and for making this year so lovely. From childhood to just this past year, from friends to family, I am beyond grateful for my village, for all the love, and for all the memories shared. I am riding this high into the next year excited to make it shine! Thank you, truly, for everything. All of you. May the art presented on this account show the astronomical progress spurred on by all of the love I’m forever honored to share with you. Cheers to 2026!

What an absolute year. I can’t even fathom how much happened or how fast it went. Never in my life did I think I could have my comics printed, or sell my work at conventions, or travel as much as I did, or work in indie animation. If I told myself this would happen 3 years ago, I’m not sure I would believe it.

None of this would’ve been possible without the wonderful community of friends i somehow wormed my way into. I’m still baffled this year even happened. So, please know that you fill my life with so much joy, happiness and love. More than i will ever be able to express. I don’t know what I ever did to deserve you all in my life, but I am so thankful and hope to give back as much love that you all give me. Cheers to 2025, and I cannot wait for 2026 with all of you 🥂🐟💕
