Levo Evo Boost mode 🚀🤘

Good times doing laps @oztrailsbikepark with @ctnebraska ! October is definitely my favorite time of the year here in NW Arkansas. Coaching a ton, and ripping laps myself when I get a free minute!

It was a unseasonably warm day, so I cut my hike short and because of the cool @bear10gear swag I was looking for my photos of the World Cup mountain bike days when I worked for Haro, but I couldn’t find them—they might be in my storage unit. I was thinking back on how I became a soigneur getting my break with Brian Lopes and Leigh Donavon when there manager/soigneur had a health issue and couldn’t go in ‘96to Spain and Italy. And I jumped at the opportunity. Suddenly breaking my legs and an ACL surgery, then racing road bicycles and going to massage school to rehabilitate my legs made the trips to Europe all worthwhile. Metting Anneke I was amazed by her strong, smooth riding style, and was a concerned that she didn’t have the support of a team with a soigneur. It was only a matter of time before her results would reward her with a bigger team with more support. And since we had no women on our team there wasn’t a conflict of interest helping her to keep her spirits up, and plus if I could ease the worry and concern of her parents I would do what I could. Plus, she was a Supercross fan! Her competition probably wished I would have minded my own business, but she was so nice to people they probably didn’t mind once they got to know her, and they understood. I became friends with them as well and helping their soigneurs when an issue came up. We were a traveling family. For example, Anneke’s latter friend and coach/manager Bas, once had a bunch of dirt in his eye on the shuttle ride back to the 4/cross start I got my eye wash out of my first aid bag and was able to wash it out before we got out. One of my riders got a little mad and said don’t help the competition! I said, he’s a good guy and if you do happen to go up against him you want to win fairly don’t you? And we’re all in this together and his soigneur would help you if you needed it! His soigneur was the one that made the massage table Euro/us swap. Because we were family! Anneke If you talk to Bas de Beaver tell him I said hi and hope he is doing well!

Run down Kitty Hawk 🤘 One of the fan-favorite blue trails at @oztrailsbikepark!

Always fun chasing drones with Anderson Ta / Benton Drones… although I almost dropped this one trying to catch it 😂

Fast, flowy, plenty of rollers and lots of opportunities to get the wheels off the ground. Everything is rollable too, making this a great one if you’re ready to progress from green to blue trails. Have you ridden this trail yet?

Full Kitty Hawk trail preview is up on my YouTube channel!

War taught me what chaos sounds like. Coming home taught me how loud silence can be.

Somewhere along the way, I found a different kind of silence on two wheels. The sound of tires on dirt. The rush of speed. The focus of the next corner.

For those few minutes, there’s no past. No noise. No war.

Just the trail, the bike, and me.

Maybe I’m not chasing the adrenaline. Maybe I’m chasing the peace that comes after it.

I had a great mail day to start off October! I am absolutely over the moon stoked for @annekebeerten starting this company to provide mountain bikers with some great gear to ride in! When I first met Anneke in 2001 on the World Cup mountain bike circuit she was so gracious and always went out of her way to help her friends with line choices on the courses, suspension set up, and stopping to talk to kids give them an autograph and stickers, so I tried to make sure I had an extra sharpie and stickers if she needed them to make sure the fans had a memorable experience. Her graciousness rubbed off on me because if she didn’t have a soigneur I tried to fill the void. When we were in Slovenia for the Maribor World Cup she over heard me say to the mechanic that on the way back to our hotel I needed to stop at a store for some oil for massages. Without hesitation she said, “I think there’s a store on this road coming to the pits, let me go see.” And she was off on her bike before I could say, you don’t have to do that, you need to rest and recover. Then before I knew it she was back to our pits holding on to a bottle of oil and her fingers gripping the handle bar. And when she did get a soigneur, I’m not sure if it was her idea or his, but he said if you provide a massage table for me in the States I can provide a massage table for you for the next rounds in Europe so we don’t have to fly tables over the Atlantic. And we did to make luggage check in more convenient!
When I saw the package with the @bear10gear sticker on it I felt like a happy little boy when I used to race a Yz 80 dirt bike on a small team from Orange County California. And I was the gear nerd, bringing my pinstripe tape and colored electrical tapes to color coordinate our gear with our team. Even modifying gear, like our Jofa mouth guards with screen I cut from my bedroom window to keep more dirt out of our mouths. And now Anneke having a gear company is fitting because her gear was always immaculate so her sponsors could be seen get the publicity they deserved. I’m so happy for such an awesome human and I think bears are my spirit animal now!
