BREAKING: Caleb Williams could have fallen victim to the infamous Madden Curse after suffering a scary fourth-quarter, non-contact injury and screaming in pain during a tough game against the Minnesota Vikings. As the cover star for Madden NFL 27, the young Chicago Bears quarterback brushed off the superstition back in June by boldly claiming he would break the dreaded curse, but leaving the field with an apparent hamstring injury right after a stellar start to the season has fans nervously wondering if the legendary curse has struck again.

Trailing late in the divisional playoffs, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams delivered a jaw-dropping, season-saving miracle against the Los Angeles Rams. Facing a desperate fourth down deep in the clutch, Williams scrambled backward nearly thirty yards behind the line of scrimmage, evading a collapsing pocket and resetting the boundaries of modern quarterback play. With defenders closing in, he launched an off-balance, fadeaway prayer that traveled over fifty yards in the air, finding tight end Cole Kmet in the end zone for an unbelievable game-tying touchdown with seconds remaining.

While the Rams ultimately captured a 20-17 victory in overtime, this instant-classic sequence cemented itself as the play of the year. The sheer audacity of the throw—completed from deeper behind the line than any pass in years—electrified the stadium and showcased the rare, generational ceiling of the young Chicago signal-caller.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III is emerging as a strong candidate for a starting role and primary target in the offense. Following the offseason departure of veteran DJ Moore, the second-year playmaker has turned heads in training camp with elite speed, sharp route-running, and consistent separation.

Head coach Ben Johnson has heavily endorsed the young wideout, comparing his competitive drive to star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Backed by strong chemistry with quarterback Caleb Williams and an expected heavy workload in the passing game, Burden is primed to lock down a top spot on the outside.

Could Burden III end up with the number 1 spot? 👀

During his 2025 campaign with the Chicago Bears, Caleb Williams faced significant hurdles due to frequent drops from his receiving corps. According to Next Gen Stats, Williams led the NFL in lost passing yards due to drops, totaling 404 yards over the season. This issue was particularly frustrating as it kept him just 58 yards shy of becoming the first 4,000-yard passer in Bears franchise history.
The impact of these missed opportunities was most evident in specific high-stakes games. In a Week 10 victory over the Giants, PFF charted Chicago pass-catchers with six drops—the most by any team in a single game that season—despite Williams repeatedly putting passes “on the money”. Analysis from Bears Wire noted that while his completion percentage suffered, many of the incompletions were perfectly placed throws that simply weren’t secured.
Despite these setbacks, Williams demonstrated remarkable growth and resilience. He finished the 2025 season with 3,942 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, significantly improving his pressure-to-sack rate from his rookie year. Fans and analysts at AtoZ Sports highlighted that while statistics like completion percentage were criticized, they often failed to account for the league-high yardage lost to drops that were otherwise accurate passes.
