My installation at the Library of Babel Expo I organized alongside @beasecchia at @indebt Gallery on February 25th 2024 (my first project as the Artist in Residence at @ecosistema.it). In “The Library of Babel”, Borges imagines the universe as a series of infinite, connecting hexagonal libraries filled with shelves of books with random characters. Driven to madness, librarians seek a mythical “Crimson Hexagon” containing a codex to interpret the randomness.

This piece imagined one of the hexagons, filled with 16 books with randomly-generated lines (according to Borges’ specifications). Visitors were encouraged to type a line of their selection from the book into the iPad mounted on the wall. The code then returned a randomly-generated, yet syntactically-cohesive sentence. The installation prompted users to question archival practices in an age of seemingly-infinite knowledge.

*8 & 9 are from the jam session at the culmination of the exhibition - the “organized chaos” of the short story was reflected in a musical lineup which progressed from solo performances to artists attempting to play an instrument they weren’t familiar with, to an improvised jam session (in the photos I’m improvising over the music with fragments of the story alongside @temporary_android). ⭐️

Thank you everyone who came to the expo and everyone who helped me to realize the installation: my collaborator @beasecchia, @bubbyylash who helped with the code, and @carolapujol, @anthony_girgis, @alex.jeunet and @lexithomlinsonblount who helped me build up the whole thing in 2.5 days! 🪜📐

Ecosistema presents: Dream, a performance

Chieko, playing the cello, and Eve, playing the harp, are two musicians that grew within nature and sound movement. On Tuesday, September 5th, they will reunite in Amsterdam for an experimental duo performance, brading their strings, sounds and movements into a crystallized dream that intends to transport our souls to the realms of beauty and bewilderment.

Tickets will be available to buy online, in @ecosistema.it’s bio and at the venue for 15 euros. There will be art exhibited at the venue.

Concert will be from 20:00 to 21:00.

Ecosistema presents: Intersezioni Immaginarie

Bea Secchia and Andrea Bellenghi present their first event as a collective.

The interaction of their visual and musical work come alive in an evening dedicated to artistic experimentation in pure form.

In this edition, Andrea Costanza will do a set inspired by the music video for his EP Natività: the listeners will be brought through the historical path of his musical influences.

Sil Zeigarnik and Lê Văn Hùng will lead a workshop on analogue collage techniques, guiding a transformation of personal stories to create collective storytelling through manipulation of tactile media.

The event will be featuring a live performance by Chupwallah on imaginary landscapes, the screening of Andrea Costanza’s music video leading to middle-eastern and Indonesian folk music in a B2B with Nymph D’Sphynx, and Wali with a closing set.

We are looking back at the past trying to conceptualize the future we want for ourselves.
