On January 15 I turned 9 years with #type2diabetes! So here’s 9 things I’ve learned over the years:

❤️ You HAVE to advocate for yourself. To your doctors, your pharmacist, your insurance, and your family & friends.

❤️ Your diabetes changes too. As you get older, your hormones change and your diabetes does too. New symptoms means finding a new way to manage.

❤️ Point #2 is frustrating as hell! Just when you think you figured out what works, diabetes is like nahhhhh.

❤️ Whatever worked for your neighbor’s grandma’s cat probably won’t work for you. Every body is different so every diabetes is different. Don’t take it personal.

❤️ No matter how hard you try with your meds, nutrition, and movement, sometimes your diabetes is out wack. This doesn’t make you a failure.

❤️ It’s totally okay to be on #insulin as a #type2diabetic. It’s just another med you can use and it has NO MORAL VALUE.

❤️ Getting off meds isn’t a goal to strive for. Living comfortably with as minimal diabetes distress is.

❤️ People will judge us for how we manage our diabetes. They don’t know shit so keep your head up.

❤️ Diabetes burnout is TOUGH. You’ll spend many days crying over how frustrated and tired you are from managing this disease every single second of your life. It’ll impact your teeth, eyes, limbs, everything, and all you can do is your best (which will be different everyday and that’s ok!).

I’ve learned so much about diabetes and about myself these past 9 years and I couldn’t have done it without my Diabuddies supporting me every step of the way. Thank you!!
