A lot of concerts happened recently but I didn’t manage to post about them due to pre-Xmas business 🙃🎄🤷‍♂️ but this is a short review:

1. on 05.12. the new trio Vyre played at Kulturcafé Max! @beate_wiesinger on bass, @snarebert_pirker on drums & @philippnykrin on keys/synths are a guarantee for high quality 👌 rhythmically very complex, groove driven songs with synth sounds that reminded me of early computer games ☺️ highly enjoyable!

2. @noursokhon & @asifeh played their first set together at @coco_bar_vienna … the deep immersive ambient music with vocal elements took the audience on an almost hypnotic journey 👏

3. @drank.music played played the last concert at @echoraum_wien for this year last Thursday… the combination of @ingridschmoliner on prepared piano & @alex___krana on trumpet/effects creates musical realms that can transport listeners into other worlds… the repetitive piano lines and airy trumpet sounds took me right into outer space 🫶

4. On Friday @araslevni played at @chateaurouge_wien … his set started with ambient noise, went to some breakbeats and ended with beat loops reminiscent of early instrumental hiphop ☺️ a playful yet sophisticated journey through sound!

This Wednesday I’ll be celebrating my 40th birthday at @rhizvienna by performing with a bunch of my favorite musicians from the Vienna scene. The Synesthetic Octet was founded in 2012 and laid the foundation for my work as a musician in Vienna. I missed the band’s 10-year anniversary, so it felt right to invite them to play on my 40th. Unfortunately, Manuel Mayr couldn’t make it, so this will be the first concert without him. I’m very happy, though, that @beate_wiesinger agreed to fill in for Manu on bass. I’ve worked a lot with Beate in the past, and we even led an octet together (Cube Octet), which — to come full circle — laid the groundwork for the music I later wrote for the Synesthetic Octet. I’m looking forward to spending this evening on stage with these wonderful people, and I’m excited to see you after the concert! Will play some new music!

BEATE WIESINGER - We’re so happy to welcome you to the MUK faculty!
As our new Professor of Jazz Bass, Beate is based in Vienna and has made huge musical statements as part of the Austrian and international scene as a bassist for, both acoustic and electric bass, composer and bandleader. She works across a wide range of genres and musical settings and which reflects her openness and versatility! These characteristics extend to Beate’s teaching methods and we’re very excited that our students will be working with her beginning in September!
