FLESH was an art and fashion performance at The Secret Door in New York City by @cadenayrosas, bringing together 62 artists to raise their voices against the ongoing laws and policies targeting immigrants in the USA.

I never got around to sharing these images from the show back in May, but with the midterms and elections coming up, I wanted to share them now as a reminder to anyone who is able to vote to keep in mind those without a voice or a vote.

Vote for those in support of abolishing ICE, ending detention centers, reuniting families, protecting immigrants, and making the process of entering the country and becoming a citizen more accessible.

Thank you, Carol, for bringing together the community to address these issues through art and performance. I hope we can continue that legacy this November.

An Atom Of Me @osmosis__world delivered mySelf to the womb, the mud and bloody guts of what it all really means. after being pulled apart string by sinuey string, bent into ancestral geometries, and smeared about the cosmic uteral lining, i arrived at the gates of “heaven” the moment the sound ended.
during the past year of study, three figures became critical guides in my quest of revelation via corporeal gnosis… to whomst i dedicate my dance…. the first, Inanna (Ishtar), the primordial goddess (really wanna find a new word for goddess, it’s lost its mojo) anyhow.. she was the very first ever to traverse through the sediment constructing reality. she is venus befor she was a star.
she descends to be with her sister (her Other), Erishkegal the queen of underworld, whose cries fill the air because she’s lost her love. at every layer of her descent she sheds a layer of herself, untill she is but flesh on a hook (see final slide of previous post). in the end, inanas flesh is redeemed back to her embodied throne because the ‘sphynxs’ who were sent to find innana, sit and cry with erishkegal untill her pain is seen felt reflected and released.

… just a sprinkle of the dust sparkling this work in case you ever wondered…

to be in the body beyond the body. to shed in order to grow. to open your ears to the ground which sprouts who you may become. to bravly behold the vulnerability of the otherside of the coin. under your skin is the best kept secret. our genetics are rewritten in every glance. every breath, a quiet dawn. every choice. every moment. every choice. every moment. do it for love,.. it’s not so bad once you’re in.

the thing I feel the most grateful about FLESH is when it stopped being a project that was only mine and became ours. I could feel it breathing, growing, it took life and expanded. 62 minds together. The hands of my family of @thesecretdoornyc , each of the people of the cast who brought to life each scene, all the artists who created such an amazing art exhibition, my ride or die team behind the curtains, and YOU, allll of YOU who where there to feel with us.
I started FLESH from a moment of darkness in my heart not knowing that was gonna be the process that was gonna bring hope and light to me again. Let’s not ever forget how powerful and immense we are when we are together. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each person who was there to witness it and to the amazing eyes of @johannablock and @madison_olandt for meticulously capturing in this video the beauty and rawness of our night 🖤
