I am hoping you all will enjoy this picture taken of the Sitoot's today.

'Murrayburn & Hailesland Community Garden were super happy to have these two benches donated by @nicola.r.atkinson & Beautiful Materials for use in the garden. Two of our amazing volunteers going with a Grant Wood American Gothic vibe modelling them. Thanks so much. We love them.' Alan Gordon ( photo credit as well)

Murrayburn & Hailesland Community Garden in Edinburgh - The community garden began as a South West Edible Estates project in 2018 and was funded by the Climate Challenge Fund. It exists as a space for the community to grow food, hold workshops, kids natural play sessions or just enjoy some peace.

Let me know here if you have a project you have good use of the wonderful SITOOT! @podbox

A small preview of a upcoming film of the making of the SITOOT with Alan @podbox . Here is the pleasure of clearing away the spruce sawdust as it is being cut out by the computer numerical control (CNC) router. As you might know it is a computer-controlled cutting machine which typically mounts a hand-held router as a spindle. #cncrouter
It is only the start of the making.

...

An extension to the Beautiful Materials Design Studio stool collection, the SITOOT© is a bench for everyone to sit anywhere.

Nicola Atkinson’s design is inspired by the stools used by shipbuilders and coal miners of our industrial past.

Available in Spruce, this bench is a strong addition to your work, home and business. It has been designed for maximum zero waste. Made in Glasgow, a single piece of plywood is used to craft three beautiful benches.

The SITOOT© is the freedom to sit in public - in your back court, in our shared gardens and the streets.

SITOOT© is beautifully made in spruce & perfectly priced at £120.

Beautiful Materials Design Studio Red Shoes finds a new home after being on Bruce street in the Spring. The 19th century old Ironmongers building 62 New Row in Dunfermline is the across from the Alhambra Theatre. Next year it will be transformed into a Dance Studio. Many thanks to Bill, Simon, Grant, Mac and his team for making this opportunity. This public art will hopefully make the dark days of winter a little brighter.
…
Moira Shearer King was an internationally renowned ballet dancer and actress born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in 1926. She is best remembered for her performances in Powell and Pressburger’s The Red Shoes (1948), which marked her feature film debut.

Taken during the installation. Thank you to the great team making this happen with passion and understanding that art is essential for well-being.

On 13 Bruce Street ‘Festival’ the public art by Nicola Atkinson Artist, Beautiful Materials Design Studio was inspired by Joseph Neil Paton, a 19 century Scottish textile designer who specialised in damasks - a technique where the reversible pattern is woven into the design, rather than printed or dyed on to it.

The designs started as a pencil drawing and then ink ready for scanning. Using the same technique as Joseph Neil Paton would have to created his ( 742) designs.

In 1877, there were 11 linen factories in the Dunfermline. In 1854, Bruce Street had a factory, warehouse, calendar and lapping works meaning linen was being made, rolled, washed, packed and stored here before being shipped all over the world.

The new weaving themed lighting canopy and public art in the shop fronts, were inspired by ideas from local business and residents and funded by Transport Scotland. The project was developed by Sustrans Scotland in partnership with Fife Council, Dunfermline Heritage Partnership and Delivering Dunfermline.

You can download a free self-guided historic walking tour of Bruce Street, amongst others, available at www.dunfermline.tours. @SustransScot @GoDunfermline #PocketPlaces #MyBruceStreet #BruceStreet

Phases of the Moon. Here is the production of Beautiful Materials handsome Flower Super Moon by @nicola.r.atkinson in granite at the Hardscape factory for the Heritage Panels Westside Plaza with Harrison Stevens landscape architect Working with Eoghan Howard, Emily Stevenson, @rebeccathecrocus and Whales Arts and @aidanbaun on this great project.

....

Throughout our history the Moon has been a symbol of aiming for unreachable goals, but on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong took ‘one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind' and for the first time humanity saw itself amongst the stars.

In this same year, the building of Wester Halies began, and residents feel a sense of pride in sharing this date with such a special event in human history. We hope that this Moon can inspire wonder and contemplation during your time in Wester Hailes. #fullmoon #westerhailes #granite #placemaking
