Winning Entertainer of the Year means more to me than I could ever put into words. As a brown and Pasifika trans person, being able to stand on a stage and be celebrated for the artist I’ve worked so hard to become is deeply meaningful. This award represents so much more than a title. it represents 12 years of perseverance, passion, and believing in myself even when it wasn’t always easy.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. the people who have cheered me on from the beginning, the friends and chosen family who have stood beside me, the audiences who have allowed me to share my art with them, and every person who has believed in my potential. I hope this moment can also serve as a reminder to other brown, trans, queer, and gender-diverse artists that there is a place for you, your stories, your beauty, and your art. Winning Entertainer of the Year is an honour I’ll carry with immense gratitude and I’m excited to keep creating, keep performing, and keep making space for the people coming after me.

Everyone in these photos (plus many others) have stood by me, given me opportunities and cheered me on over the last 12 years.
I love you all so much. Here’s to another 12 years x

AN ODE TO TAX EVASION

Since I knew I would be changing my name, I wanted my Proud Awards look to be an homage to all of the previous work I’ve done as Tax Evasion. There are 20 hand painted masks in this look (not all pictured in the last slide), which I then ripped up, glued, and chained together to create the top and boa. The skirt was thrifted, the dirtied and set on fire to create the singed hem.

This is probably my favourite thing I’ve ever made, and I am so glad everyone seemed to like it as well :)
