To say I made my DEBUT performances and tour as a dancer with the @marthagrahamdance company still sounds so crazy to me. 😭❤️ But it’s a true testament to the work, dedication, and effort I’ve been putting in. Grateful is an understatement. To be a part of such an incredible legacy and surrounded by so many talented people is truly inspiring and such a blessing.

The amount of love and support I’ve received from my coworkers is a gift I don’t take for granted. From the moment I joined, I’ve been welcomed with open arms, and everyone has been so supportive of me. For that, I’m forever grateful. Thank you guys. ❤️

From the swamps of Louisiana to the castles of Mexico, man, I’m just so grateful for this life. ❤️

On September 22nd, 1988, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar’s “Shelter” had its U.S. premiere at The Kitchen inside the evening-length work titled “Heat.”

“I moved to New York City from Tallahassee, FL in 1980. The sheer numbers of those who were living on the streets, many African American, angered me. The themes of displacement and dislocation became the central point of investigation for “Shelter,” created in 1988.

“Shelter” explores the contemporary and the historical relationship of people affected by displacement... I have remounted “Shelter,” dedicated to those affected by natural and unnatural disasters, systemic poverty, and inadequate government response.” — Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Founding Artistic Director

This truth-telling work returns to the stage Saturday, October 17th at @tennesseepac. Celebrate the U.S. premiere with 20% off tickets until Wednesday, September 23rd, 10 PM CT with code SHELTER.

We bring the presence of Blackness to the table.
Not a race-based concept. A spectrum of excellence.
A centering of voices that don’t often get centered.

THIS IS RISK, looks forward and back in celebrating four decades of operating at the vanguard of movement and social activism. THIS IS RISK takes the audience through intentional storytelling to the next space of collective brilliance. This energetically charged evening includes iconic works by Founder Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, which feature live music including the return of “Shelter”, a full performance of “Batty Moves”, and “Contemplations on Legacy,” by long-time UBW collaborator and choreographer Vincent E. Thomas.

‘Dancing in the Streets’ with @vaildancefest !!
My first time at Vail Dance Festival was so amazing and I had so much fun leading this community event with my partner in crime @jai.perez ❤️
One of my favorite parts of touring is getting involved with so many different communities and getting to share our love for dance across the world. And this one is up there for one of my favorites! Thank you Vail!🫶🏼

From honoring the Earth to calling for peace 🌿

We share an excerpt from Jacqulyn Buglisi’s “Moss Anthology: Variation #5,” work inspired by the wisdom of moss and our responsibility to care for the natural world. Performed with @vildwerk at @bryantparknyc ‘s Picnic Performances presented by @bankofamerica and rooted in the writings of Robin Wall Kimmerer, the piece reminds us that reciprocity with nature begins with connection.

This spirit of connection continues through Buglisi Dance Theatre’s annual Table of Silence Project, with a call for professional and advanced dancers on August 13 & 14. Join this powerful movement for peace by registering through the link in @buglisidance ‘s bio 🕊️
