a few things we’ve learned shooting proposals vs. scheduled engagement sessions, the real-day proposal hits different. The shock, the happy-cry, the way their hands shake, you can’t pose or recreate that. It’s raw and it’s everything. But because it’s a surprise, the prep falls almost entirely on the person popping the question. So if that’s you, a few things from experience to tell your photographer

→ the timeline and the *exact* spot. We’ll scout angles and lighting ahead so we’re invisible when it happens.

→ Pick golden hour if you can. An hour before sunset is the most forgiving, romantic light there is.

→ Gently nudge your partner to feel their best that day, suggest the outfit you love on them, plan a “date” so they do their hair/makeup without suspecting a thing. People glow when they feel put-together.

→ Hold the moment. Stay down on one knee, hug a beat longer, don’t rush. Those extra seconds are the photos you’ll frame.

→ Trust us to disappear. Our whole job is to catch it without you ever feeling watched.

The emotion on the actual day is something you can never get back in a re-staged shoot. Capturing it the moment it happens is the whole magic. 🤎

the last few weeks, i’ve felt it — that quiet discouragement that creeps in when people can’t seem to see the value behind what you do.
when your prices are questioned, your time is stretched thin,
and the art that once felt like freedom starts to feel like weight.

i’ve opened my camera and felt nothing.
i’ve stared at galleries and wondered if i’ve lost it —
that spark, that pull, that thing that used to come so naturally.

but i’m learning that creativity doesn’t disappear,
it just asks for stillness.
it asks for silence, for living,
for a chance to breathe before it finds you again.

and when it does, it rushes back like light through the window —
and suddenly you remember why you started.

this is your reminder,
for any artist feeling like your art is rotting in your hands —
it’s not gone.
it’s just resting.
