This episode is called Confessions of A Shopaholic: Shanghai edition. My mother laments that she brought on this sick malaise unto herself because she used to push me around in a pram in departmental stores all day when I was little — even before I could speak. I think it must have started there. I exercised full volition in everything I wore from a young age. There are ridiculous photos of me as a four-year-old in little block heels and a shift dress. You know what Miuccia Prada says right, “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world. Fashion is instant language.” So yes, this is how I’m talking to you every moment, every day 💋🐩🦚

A few slow days away for a much-needed recharge.

We wanted somewhere nearby within Southeast Asia, away from the city, where we could simply slow down without having to plan an itinerary and no shopping involved — a beach holiday seemed to check all the boxes. So, just two weeks before the trip, we decided on Bintan as the destination, booked the hotel and ferry tickets, and went ⛴️

I’ve never really been a resort holiday person, but I might just slowly become a convert. There was something nice about not having to rush from places to places and had nothing much to do. It was a restful short break and I’m actually looking forward to another resort holiday next time 🏝️

🪺 Nesting at 36 weeks
{ BATHROOM } ⛵️

I’ve had a love-hate relationship with my bathroom since I swapped rooms with my brother, and gave up a more spacious bathroom. This current one is tiny but I’ve made feel more airy by removing the shower curtain.

On my wish list is to retile the entire bathroom in shimmery tiles to make it feel more modern, and to reduce the size of the sink. But that remains a project for the future!

I don’t have a mirror in the bathroom due to personal preference so many walls are bare, which made them perfect for small but meaningful additions like hooks and racks to make everything neater 💆🏻‍♀️

I installed a variety of hooks beside the sink and in the shower itself, in anticipation of all the towels and cloths to be used in the coming years. Drilling is always a risk with potential plumbing behind the walls so I chose a mix of self-adhesive hooks for lighter towels and a handful of drilled ones for heavier items ☺️

Above my tap, a rack for my daily essentials - I had my items in a MUJI container on my sink top but realised that it made cleaning the sink top rather cumbersome. I also thought baby H might like to sit on the sink top at some point in his babyhood so installing a rack above the sink made sense to me 🫧

My skincare and bathroom routine are pretty simple as I’ve stopped using harsh products and kept to a minimalist routine after experimenting with all kinds of unsuitable products in my early and mid 20s 🥲 I am happy to say that my skin is so much healthier now in my early 30s than it was though my teens and 20s!

P.S. I don’t use face wash but instead a locally-produced soap with patented live enzymes from @sparrowholistichealth 🐦 I was excited to meet the founder Chee Wen last year at a pop-up event and became inspired by her passion and warmth!

I’ve also started the process of transitioning to plant-based products - something that both me and baby H can share. This extends to shampoo, body wash, hand wash, laundry pods and moisturiser. Anything that baby uses, mummy uses ☺️💚 I am a big fan of @cloversoft
